Part Three of a three-part series.
Here are my nominees from each team for this year's Masterton Trophy.
This does not mean that I think each has an equal shot at the trophy, just that each is the most deserving from his team.
The West
Anaheim--Brad May
To play as long as he has in the role he does is saying something.
Calgary--Owen Nolan
Literally a "greybeard," back from serious injuries to be a key piece in Calgary.
Chicago--Patrick Lalime
Goaltender has resurrected his career.
Colorado--Jose Theodore
See Patrick Lalime
Columbus--Fredrik Modin
Often battered, never bowed.
Dallas--Mike Modano
Passing
P.Housley was no small feat.
Detroit--Dan Cleary
Another career reclaimed from the scrap heap.
(
NOTE: if
Darren McCarty makes it back to Detroit, he's the guy)
Edmonton--Ethan Moreau
Missed over a year, now serves as a fearless leader.
Los Angeles--Dan Cloutier
Stuck it out in the minors for the worst team in the league.
Minnesota--Keith Carney
I almost forgot he was still playing.
Nashville--Greg de Vries
Undrafted, but approaching 800 NHL games as a reliable rearguard and quiet leader.
Phoenix--Steven Reinprecht
Also undrafted, has battled injuries for years; now part of the up-and-coming Coyotes.
San Jose--Sandis Ozolinsh
Back from the brink of oblivion, onto one of the top teams in the West.
St. Louis--Jay McKee
See Fredrik Modin
Vancouver--Trevor Linden
Not only for his years of service, but for his work in getting the league back on the ice after the lockout.

Edmonton's should be Pisani - who came back from a serious illness and over 30lbs lost in August to be playing again in Decemeber - great story.
Yeah, I think Pisani has it locked up but he does have competition from Ozolinch
the winner will be Blake in TO.....Cancer Leafs = Trophy
I try to support de Vries here in Nashville, but it's often difficult. He's appears in all matters to be a really good guy and a does bring sportsmanship. However, he's almost too quiet (and seems too slow to me, which is a concern having little to do with the Masterton I guess). But my analysis is really meaningless compared to that of those who coach and play NHL hockey. I do continue to notice the positives he brings - just wish there were more.
The guy is a punk, but give me Owen Nolan from the Western candidates.
