Blues' Deal for Emery in the Works???

According to the Ottawa Sun, SI.com, and XM Home Ice Radio, the Blues are trying to work a deal to get much-maligned goaltender Ray Emery out of Ottawa. One of the Blues' main targets this offseason is to find a suitable backup goaltender to starter Manny Legace.

The deal mentioned has Emery and offensive prospect Ilja Zubov going to the Blues for defenseman Jay McKee, winger Dan Hinote, and a fifth round pick in Friday's NHL Draft.

Here's what SI.com had to say about the Emery situation:

The Senators can officially get rid of Ray Emery. The buyout period started yesterday and runs until June 30. It's expected the Senators will soon serve notice to the troubled goalie that his days with the club are finished. Before GM Bryan Murray sends Emery packing with a $2.25-million buyout, Murray will exhaust all trade options. Sources say there are a couple of teams interested in Emery, including the Blues. A source said a deal could be worked out if Murray is willing to add a prospect or a pick in this weekend's draft at Scotiabank Place.

Emery would seem like a decent fit, even though his past actions with Ottawa (alcohol troubles, run-ins with the law, missing practice) may have fans turning the other way. Emery needs to get out of Ottawa. He's already worn out his welcome there with his teammates and the fans, so going to a city which is less-known for it's hockey would seem like a breath of fresh air for the 25 year old goalie.
