Update, 3:30 p.m. EST: The entry I had posted here before is meaningless now! Pommer signs a 5-year extension this afternoon, reportedly between $5 and $6 mill per season. Thoughts? I think it's a great deal and I'm ecstatic to hear the news! No more distractions going into Camp. Let's get the season started, Sabres fans!

Sabres fans on pins and needles...Just waiting to hear Jason Pominville has signed an extension with the Blue and Gold.

At least I am.

And if other Buffalo faithful are anything like me, they're waking up every morning, headed right to BuffaloNews.com, WGR55.com, Hockeybuzz.com, or their other outlet of choice to see the headline, "POMMER EXTENDED"...

Every day goes by, and still nothing new. The WGR report resonates in our minds, and it plays itself over and over again - Friday deadline, Friday deadline.

Then Ek says Pommer has NOT drawn a line in the sand, and we all just get that much more confused.

This much is known. Deadlines and the Sabres don't mix very well. So we've learned the last several years. And just hearing that word, it's a scary one.

Yes, he's an RFA. Yes, we can go this entire year without "worrying about it." But it would still be a distraction. Inevitably, it would have to be. Pominville is too good a player, and the media will be all over it, especially the 2nd half of the season.

If he really won't negotiate during the season, then Gee....Sabres fans are on pins and needles waiting to hear the news of an extension. We've been waiting since Ryan Miller signed his extension - and BTW, that was huge and has relieved us all a great deal.

Pommer's a fan favorite, and if we go the whole season without him extended, there's no predicting what might happen after that. The next 48 hours, we'd like nothing more than to hear this is done with. Because only then can we truly start Camp without a distraction in the world.

Agree 100%, I hope Darcy decides that PVille is a place worth keeping in town.

We should be more worried about getting off to a better start and keeping more pucks out of the net! Miller needs to be better and Lalime needs to make us forget about T-bo. And the D need to stay healthy. There's no hurry on 29

My stomach was in knots before I read this, now it's a Rat King! My question is this: How come no other media outlet has reported this "deadline"? I haven't heard anything from any TV stations, the newspaper, anywhere online (except WGR), no where have I heard this except for WGR550 and since they've announced that a few days ago, they haven't said anything else. I dunno, it's fishy to me. either way, get him locked up now, we have the cash to do so.

Sabretooth, There is a hurry on 29. Given the organizations previous record as well as what happened with Vanek. Did you think vanek was a $7,000,000 a year player? I know I didnt. Vanek does score more than Pommer but Pommer brings so much more to the game right now. His defense and penalty killing skills are far better than Thomas. Not to mention Pommer is more of a leader than Thomas. I agree we need to be off to a better start but signing our furture captain should be at the top of the lsit.

NO GOAL: Don't get me wrong. I love 29. Where he came from and clearing waivers a couple of years ago. I just put things in what I percieve to be in order of importance.

sabretooth, i agree with others who posted here - it has to be a huge priority. then again, the fact that we have miller signed after so many said it was a "lock" he was going to detroit, maybe us sabres fans are getting a bit greedy. but i think i'm biased too - i have a pommer jersey and i'd hate for him to leave.

I stopped putting names on my jersey when they traded Danny Gare. He still is my all time favorite! On 29, you know Darc. I don't believe there is a deadline. It will be done in due time if both sides are fair

true, true. it doesn't make it any easier playing the waiting game though, each and every day. at least for me!

Pominville SignsGreg Bauch [email protected] Buffalo, NY (WGR 550) -- The Sabres have signed forward Jason Pominville to a 5-year extension. The 26-year old was entering the final year of his contract, but will now be with the team long-term. WGR 550 has learned that Pominville will earn over $5 million per season. The new deal kicks in after the 2008-09 season.Pominville played in every game last season for Buffalo and registered 27 goals and 53 assists. In 3 seasons, all with Buffalo, he has 79 career goals. Drafted in the 2nd round by the Sabres in the 2001 entry draft, Pominville has 9 goals and 11 assists in 34 post season games. He was the teams' captain at the end of the 2007-08 campaign.Pominville's agent, Norman Dupont, spoke with WGR 550's Howard Simon earlier this week to declare a Friday deadline for contract talks. Pominville did not want to go into the season with his contract creating a distraction. Dupont and GM Darcy Regier worked through the week to hammer out the final details of the new deal.

And we can now officially put the Drury-Briere thing behind us. I've been off this site since mid-July, but this is worthy of getting back at it. Given that players are healthy and it sounds like Gerbe, etc are going to push hard fro roster spots, this team looks absolutely loaded. Great job Darcy!

Great deal for the boys in blue and gold! We didn't overpay and got a great player who has playmaking and leadership skills...doesn't get much better than that!

With the signing of Number 29, the sabres have their "core" players all under long-term contracts. Go Sabres!
