Owww! My Groin!

Posted 6:12 PM ET | Comments 4
Sounds like from all reports that our Big Joe has a groin injury. This would explain a lot about his lack of "zip" so far this season and his troubles in and around the net. The question should be: Should McLellan bench him to rest him, or do you let him try and play tough guy and play through it?

I know it has been said that he has a high tolerance for pain, but even though half a Joe is better than a full non Joe, what are the long term implications? Does it get worse? Would it heal itself? Probably not. Why not rest him now while the season is young and get him healthy for more action later? I know Joe is a big star and has a lot of say on his own behalf, but when should a team step up and make that decision for the star? I guess if we see him play tonight against the Panthers, we may have our answer.

Interested to hear any comments for or against this below. Thanks for the quick read.

I say rest him now. Sure, the Sharks lost to Florida last night, but I really wouldn't read to much into it. Sometimes this kind of thing just happens. By resting him you give Joe a much better chance to prove his worth in the playoffs, something he has yet to do in his already illustrious career, as well as play late in the season when San Jose usually pulls out all the stops. The Sharks will absolutely miss Joe during the time he is healing, but they will miss him more when he really destroys something and is out for the rest of the season and playoffs. This lineup looks pretty good to me anyway:Michalek - Marleau - CheechooGrier - Pavelski - SetoguchiClowe - Goc - RoenickShelley - Plihal - StaubitzAlso don't forget that Torrey Mitchell should be back sometime late next month or early December, and while he is no Big Mean Joe, he's definitely San Jose's hottest young player besides Setoguchi, and who possess great passing skills and all the intangibles that make Joe a great center too.So for now I say rest him and take it light in practices. Joe will most certainly argue, but that is why McLellan sits behind the bench every night in a suit and tie: to tell players what they sometimes don't want to hear.

The way things are I want big joe to sit out for a little while. Let Patty center the first line. Short and sweet but I need big joe to be healthy.

They should give Joe some time off after the Pittsburgh and Detroit games. Those games are huge and if can play let him play.

I would have to say that whatever the short term cost, it is probably worthwhile to sit him now rather than later.
