Karyia Becomes the Latest Casuality on Injury Front

Can it get any worse for the Blues?

The rash of injuries the Blues have had early on this season has now spread to Paul Kariya. He is flying back to St. Louis to have an MRI taken on what is being called a "lower body injury" by the team. Kariya was injured in the second period of last night's game against Anaheim, and didn't return. While nothing has been leaked about what type of injury this might be, Blues' fans may want to hold their collective breaths on this one.

So, that makes seven players the Blues have been without for at least some point during the early stages of the season. Geez, this team has no luck whatsoever.

After two bad performances in goal by goalie Chris Mason against Pittsburgh and Anaheim, backup Ben Bishop will get the start tonight in San Jose when the Blues face the Sharks at 9:35 CT. Bishop is coming off of a groin strain, and will see his first action in over a week. The last time he was in goal, the 20-year old Missouri native stopped all 12 shots he faced against Florida before leaving midway through the second period.

Speaking of injured goalies, Manny Legace is scheduled to be the starter Saturday night when the Blues head to Los Angeles to face the Kings. Legace has not played since his freak hip injury after slipping on a rug placed on the ice for Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin. Palin was in St. Louis to drop the ceremonial first puck two weeks ago, ironically when the Blues faced the Kings, and as Legace was leading his team out onto the ice, he slipped on the rug and hurt his hip. Legace gutted through the injury for one period, but was pulled after he was in obvious pain and was stretching his hip out after every stoppage in play.

Note to the NHL: Don't do that again. Wait to put a rug onto the ice AFTER the teams come out, therefore eliminating any type of injuries that might be sustained by a player. I hope the NHL learned their lesson after Legace's injury.
