Evgeni Nabokov was not selected for the All-Star game this year. This is a real tragedy for the sport when I look at the goalies who were selected.
East - Henrik Lundqvist (NYR) - A solid goaltender who has kept the streaky Rangers near the top of the conference all season long. But if Lundqvist is on the roster with 23 wins, why are Kipprusoff (NHL-leading 27 wins) and Nabby (23 wins) not on the roster for the West?
West - Niklas Backstrom (MIN) - Fifth in GAA (2.18), 5th in wins (21) and tied for second in shutouts (5) make the Wild starter deserving of his place on the west roster. But he's not a leader in any stat category and 14 losses (T-5th) doesn't exactly scream All-Star.
West - Roberto Luongo (VAN) - Luongo played 19 of his 20 games before Thanksgiving and not at all during December. Yes he has put up good numbers (5 shutouts in 20 games), but Nabby has won more games this season than Luongo has played.
All three of these players deserve to be in Montreal next weekend, but so does Nabokov.
