Would it kill Versus to spare us the scattered commentary and storytelling and just use the TSN or CBC feed for the rest of the NHL playoffs? Last night's SJ/DET was pleasure to watch because the announcers were calling the game and not talking about how one of the players grew up on a small farm in Nova Scotia and played hockey with cattle all day on the backyard pond. Keep the focus on the play and eliminate the rest. The play attracts viewers and keeps our attention, filling in every second with mindless blather does not.
Amen brother. One of our biggest complaints in Buffalo. If we can watch on CBC, we do. Wish we got TSN south of the border.
I could also care less to hear "OH-FENSE" 27 times by the same guy, and sometimes twice in one sentence! It was like he was purposely saying "this is how we speak in Canada!" I don't care which feed we get...how about the announcers CALL THE GAME!
I am all for it...I personally e-mailed OLN(new Versus) last year and told me that their announcers just really suck...you are right, when they call the games like Detriot, or teams that they like, the continue to talk about the players on that team. I think I heard it like 1000 times on Saturday on NBC that Wings have advanced to the post-season 22 times...enough is enough, call the freaking game....
I agree with you guys and I celebrate when Versus gives us American viewers the Canadien feed. Though I will say John Forslund is a huge improvement over Joe "I'm gonna announce the teams colors and say 'this is the NHL on Versus' 1,000 times during the broadcast" Benanati.
Emrick is unlistenable...party because every sucks if they arent named the Devils and his constant drivel about meaningless crap instead of the game on the ice is downright painful. Forslund is the Canes play by play TV guy and imo is excellent. Gets the game, doesnt try to oversell the action on the ice and really does a good job at being impartial, regardless of who is playing....
I think you guys are all wrong. I've watched many games over the year and playoffs and I think they do a fine job, they explain the things that happen as they happen. I don't need to hear 'and now dallas comes up the side boards' every time they come through the neutral zone, just say the important things, like they do, and let us watch the game. The stories are part of what makes the game interesting, keep em' coming.
