According to Mike McMahon of the Eagle Tribune out of Boston, free agent defenseman Derek Morris has apparently agreed to terms on a contract with the Boston Bruins.
McMahon attributes the report from two sources close to the situation saying that Morris, 30, agreed in principal to terms of the deal. However, Morris' agent, Brad Devine, has told various media outlets that Morris has not signed with the Bruins, but are one of several teams that have expressed interest in Morris.
Morris appreard in 75 games with the Phoenix Coyotes and New York Rangers last season, and totaled five goals and 15 assists.
Morris was traded from the Coyotes to the Rangers at the trade deadline last season that sent defenseman Dmitri Kalinin and forwards Petr Prucha and Nigel Dawes to Phoenix in exchange.
McMahon's sources reiterate, though, that the deal is comfirmed and Morris will be headed to Beantown to join the likes of Zdeno Chara and Dennis Wideman on a very talented Bruins' defensive core.
More to come on this situation when I hear anything else.
UPDATE:
TSN has now reported this signing as official. It's a one-year contract worth $3.3 million.
