Given this game was broadcast on the NHL network and not the Center Ice package, I had to resort to watching the game online. I want to send a special thank you to ustream.tv and slimebox for making the game available online for free.
It was good to see the Flyers come out with a much needed win tonight and end the three game losing streak. While the Flyers did not play a totally dominant game, there were decent stretches of time in which they outplayed and outhustled the Bruins. Tuukka Rask kept the Bruins tied at the end of the first period as the Flyers pressured Boston for much of the period. It was through his solid goaltending that allowed the Bruins to come away with one point and almost with the win. Emery was solid in net and made some spectacular saves when called upon. Would like to see a little more rebound control, but overall the Flyers did well with clearing loose pucks. Also good to see the role-players come up big tonight as Powe, Asham, and Pronger all got on the scoresheet. Philadelphia's big guns could use the help and contributions from anyone not names Richards, Carter, Briere goes a long way towards getting two points. Gagne looked very tentative at times and is fighting the puck. He needs one fortunate bounce off a skate or an empty net goal to finally get that first goal so he can relax. Its getting painful watching all the missed opportunities, especially when not even a shot is registered.
Anyways, sorry for the abbreviated wrapup but it was good to see the Flyers come away with the win, in a shootout no less! Lets hope they can tighten up some of the loose play and continue building on the good things they were able to accomplish into this weekend. The good news is the two teams they play are both the second game of back to back nights. Florida plays tomorrow in Pittsburgh before playing the Flyers on Saturday, while the Sharks play in Atlanta on Saturday then travel to Philly for a Sunday tilt to end their 6-game road trip. Lets hope the Flyers can take advantage of these tired teams and come away with 4 points.
Lets Go Flyers!
