Is Girardi The Answer?

Posted 2:20 PM ET | Comments 7
It seems as if the perfect storm is building in New York (no pun intended). The Rangers have traded away Del Zotto, are having trouble signing Callahan and seemingly will be unable to lock up Dan Girardi.

Enter the Maple Leafs, the Leafs have been looking to bolster their defence with a solid defensive minded defenceman and Girardi fits the bill. He is a top pairing d-man who has the ability to be a an elite shut down man, while allowing his partners to flourish offensively (See Mcdonagh).

The Maple Leafs currently have a glutten of offensive minded defenceman who are unable to have chemistry in the defensive end and are causing many secondary chances for the opposition.

Since the Rangers seem to be retooling and have traded away a puck moving defenceman it seems highly unlikely they will allow Girardi to walk away in the offseason. I propose a trade to Mr. Sather

To New York:
Jake Gardiner & a 2nd Round Pick

To Toronto:
Dan Girardi

Now I understand Leaf fans will be up in arms over the second round pick along side with Gardiner going to the Rangers. However, Gardiner still has not completely developed and must be resigned as he is a restricted free agent. Also, as previously mentioned Girardi is an established top pairing D-Man who is well worth it.

Leaf Defence Core After Trade:

Girardi Phaneuf
Franson Gleason
Rielly Gunnarsson

Now THAT is a D-Core you can be proud of icing game in and game out...but who knows, knowing the luck of Leaf fans Girardi will end up in Boston.

What are you thinking? Trade Franson.Ek! Hook me up with a blog.

I think franson is more appropriate, plus the rangers were interested in him and i highly doubt the rangers want to go the route of del zotto again. They arguably want some decent size

Just another Leafs pipe dream. A number 1/2 D man for a prospect ( yes a prospect. If you cant stay in the lineup you are still just a prospect ) and a 2nd rd pick??? Keep dreaming and over valuing your players

Gardiner has been a constant in the line-up. Lol

Rangers would laugh at this offer and the Bruins or Pens would double it if they felt it necessary to make their playoff push

You will need to pay more for Garardi. Sorry but a top pair shut down dman...at the deadline. Defense always costs more. You are offering a player and a second round pick. Not even close.

considering the rangers tried to get gardiner for Del Zotto....this would not work.
