DVSP got bumped quickly to the 2nd line last night in Columbus. He didn't do anything too exciting but a couple of nice chances, a few hits and some blocked shots (a -2 doesn't help but) you can't ask for much more in your first game.
The starting line is solid. Patches and Gallagher are here, signed up and locked in for a while. We could use an upgrade at top line centre but there's no reason to rush it. It's not "broke". It's just not the best.
third line seems to be clicking - some power forwards with surprising offensive potential with Weise, Rosey and Prusty - gotta love it.
So - we jam Eller on the wing on the 4th line with Christian Thomas/Bournival on the other with Malhotra - I'd say Malhotra and Eller are interchangeable pieces - nothing worth much. He's not playing his way off the team but he seems an odd fit and is playing like garbage as of late.
Markov Subban Beaulieu Gonchar and then, hey, fill it out with Tinordi, Pateryn, Weaver, Gilbert and we're set.
Why on earth would the habs look to make a move for any of the "available" players?! A lot of them are older, past their prime and we have young upstarts with potential with some "experienced fellas to guide the way. It's not the best roster top to bottom, we could absolutely do better but not with what's out there in my opinion.
I still think Bergevin will try and make one more move before the deadline. I do see them being more aggressive in the offseason and target Eberle or Sharp. Would also love to go after Seabrook.
The Habs are fine, probably the favorite in the east
He needs an insurance policy in case of injuries. I would expect some unheralded player that Bergevin has been scouting for a while to be a target. He appears far shrewder than either Gainey or Gauthier ever were when it comes to depth help for the team.
Ct89, I agree, probably a defenseman.
