Everyone has them, here's mine:
EVANDER KANE WAS A GOOD SIGNING
Say what you will about the mans personal life, but you can't complain about his play. The team may still be battling to solidify it's playoff spot, but Kane has done his fair share to keep them in it. Holland is not a GM who should be given any kudos; like any at all, but he can get it here. Kane has come as exactly hoped for; A power forward with a nose for the net. 15 G and 23 PTS in 27 GP is exactly what the Oilers needed to shore up their offensive depth. If they make the playoffs is still anyone's guess, but you can't argue against the Kane signing.
+- IS A RELEVANT STAT
I don't think it's the ultimate definer of a players game, but it gives a good indication of what's happening on the ice around them when they're on it. For example Alexander Romanov of the Habs is a +- 0. Not particularly impressive out of perspective. But it becomes much more so when you realize almost everyone else is a heavy negative.
THE ALL STAR GAME
Long since finished ,but still has to be said. I couldn't care less about it. It's not even the best players in the league anymore. It's some type of weird, watered down commercial gimmick that upsets teams grooves.
EICHEL TRADE WORKED OUT FOR BOTH.
On a production stand point it looks pretty even right now. Eichel may only have 14 pts in 20 games, but that's pretty impressive for a midseason-start. Especially coming off surgery and rehab. Vegas can rest easy knowing he can still play. As for the Sabres, they are seeing a good result on their return. Alex Tuch is putting points up at a .8 PPG rate. That is 28 pts in 35 games currently. With him as well coming off a late season injury related start. Krebs, the other big piece, is still a work in progress, but shows good potential with 15 PTS in 41 GP. A lot of people trampled on Buffalo for their return, but so far it isn't looking bad for either side.
WADDELL WINS THE DEADLINE WITH DOMI
I'm sure there are reasons people could make that could rationalize the return for a player like Domi, but Waddell got a deal no matter how they argue it. Domi brings grit and secondary scoring to an already deep team. Columbus GM JK is usually a pretty savy guy, but Waddell earns the "Bandit of the 2022 Deadline" award for this one.
