"Behind your Isles News!"
From Neil Best from Newsday:

"In an interview with WFAN, commissioner Gary Bettman said the broad audience was worth the risk of overtime, but he left open the possibility of rethinking the Saturday afternoon strategy next year."

"Why not at least move the game to, say, MSNBC, which is in about 20 million fewer homes than NBC but 20 million more than Versus? Because Versus is the NHL's cable partner; it gets first dibs."

"However, our decision to schedule the game with NBC was done to provide as much of the broadcast as possible to the greatest number of viewers."

Ratings Corner:
From 4:30 to 5 p.m., an estimated 1.5 percent of homes in major markets watched hockey. In the next three half-hour segments, the Preakness averaged 3.8, 4.8 and 7.5.

Its Time for NBC To cut the crap with Saturday night Reruns, bite the bullet and air NHL Games at Night in the regular season.. Maybe you should air your Ratings cow "Deal or No Deal" before the game to make sure people are watching and paying attention!

Don't expect Bettman to do anything to make the NHL more popular, unless of course it make HIM more money. I also don't think hockey will catch on in a large scale, until the news networks start recognizing the sport and its fans. Watch Headline News, you'll rarely see any hockey clips, and when you do it's a 3 second shot. I lived in Minnesota (a place one would think hockey is popular) and rarely saw any hockey footage on the local news. Every kid plays it, but networks don't see it as a money maker. Maybe if someone could answer that question, more people would watch.

I never watch day games in the regular season -- hockey is a night game and I simply do not enjoy it during the day in the same manner. I TiVoed Saturday's game so I could watch it at night, so I never saw OT -- very angry to say the least!
