Stars eek out the win in the shootout. Smitty is perfect against the 6 shootout shooters he has faced. Jussi got the only shootout goal for dallas to put us on top. He looked like he was going to swing wide and try the dangle he is known for, but he saw that Norrena was expecting that and turned with the puck to slide it, more forcefully, in the puck-sized hole between the pad and the post.
Norrena was very solid tonight for the Jackets.
Nash and Zherdev look so very good together. I was cringing everytime number sixty flippin one was on the ice. I wish we had that guy on our wing!!!!! what an incredible talent. Now he is on the penalty kill too, I am on the Nash wagon.
Federov was kinda quiet. he was still, of course, very good defensively.
I was quite dissappointed with Modano again tonight. Lehtinen woke up and had a very good night, Hagman played just as he played all year so far, and Modano turned the puck over a lot and did not really create anything.
Ribeiro seems to be getting his feet back under him, and that is great for us Dallas fans. Ribeiro connected with Morrow in the final minute or so to tie the game with the extra attacker on the ice.
Jokinen had the opening tally as well as the shootout winner, and played pretty solid. He should be playing in the top 6, not on the 4th line. Although, Barnes and Jussi seemed to play ok together.
I do not like that Winchester took Lundqvists spot in the 3rd period. Winchester played OK with Barnes and Jussi, but it wasnt anything special. He did receive a point as the secondary assist on Jussi goal.
This Niskanen kid is going to be incredible in this league. He is already not fooled by simple deeks, and he plays the body very well. He did have one gaff in the second period, but quickly recovered. He was rewarded with some PP time in the 3rd period.
Looking forward to Anaheim......
Our lines should be
Lehtinen - Modano - Jokinen
Morrow - Ribeiro - Hagman
Lundqvist - Halpern - Barnes
barch - Winchester - Fedoruk
Zubov - Norstrom
Robidas - Daley
Boucher - Niskanen
It is going to be a very physical matchup, and I cannot wait for it. Anaheim has been struggling a bit of late (probably due to the horrible scheduling of the opening of the season for them). It is always nice to send the stanley cup champion home with a black eye, and I expect to do so. We are much better at home, and I hope it shows.
If.... If.... If.....
Modano keeps playing the way he is, he needs to get a wake up call from tippet by getting scratched for a game. He is supposed to be one of the leading veterans, but he is being a soft turnover machine. He is not following through on any hit whatsoever, he turns the puck over way too much, he does not push himself (or anyone else) for loose pucks, his passing has not been good. Wasnt this guy the captain at one point?!?!?!?!? The only consistent thing he is doing is playing solid on the defensive side of the puck. I love Modano, but he needs to step it up greatly!
I am ready for Chris Conner to get a chance up here, the kid has got a load of speed and talent.
rambling complete for the day.
