Correct me if I'm wrong, but I looked it up and believe that the 2003-04 Calgary Flames are the only team to have ever gone to the Stanley Cup Finals by eliminating the 1, 2 and 3 seeds in their conference during the playoffs....

So if the Flyers pull it off against Pittsburgh, which I think they have a real solid shot of doing, they would be the first team in the Eastern Conference ever to do so since the NHL went to its current playoff format (with 8 seeds from each conference) in the 1993-94 season.

A few sidenotes for superstitious Flyer fans...
Those Flames were a 6th seed when they did it in 2004
They won a game 7 on the road in their first round
The year before their run the Flames were, like the Flyers, last in their division.

Just a thought.....We'll break it down during the week on air and right here but for anyone interested in the early prediction:

Flyers in 6

i hope history repeats itself! the flyers certainly can win the series but i think it's going to take a huge team effort... i think this series will either be short and decided by blowout games or 1-goal games or a very long one...i think the pens will win it if it goes the fast routei think the flyers will win it if it goes the distance

I think the bigger history story would be, going from last in the NHL to winning the Stanley Cup. Has that ever happened?

Agree with kollarism about the last place to Stanley Cup being the huge story (if it happens). Looking at the final standings, there really wasn't a huge difference between 1st and 8th (other than Ottawa, who clearly appears to be the team that didn't belong in the playoffs), and the Flyers actually finished one point ahead of the 3rd place Caps.

Loving the Flyers right now, I hope history does repeat itself for the great fans in Philly! Go Flyers!

Flys will be lucky to not get swept. But only because of Biron.

I dont think so... I like Dallas or Detroit right now (I am not saying this because I am a Habs fan)

Philly is a great club but, Pittsburgh is too tuff to defend 5 on 7 the way Malkin passes to Fraser and then Fraser shoots and scores. Man those reffs can play, but they do miss a lot of plays. Especially when it involves a stick to Drurys face. F the Penns and their offsides goal. KILL EM PHILLY!

Rangers had more PP's in the series than the Pens...The conspiracy must run really deep and be bad at math.

disturbtheworld -- Why let facts (Rangers with more PP's than the Pens) get in the way of a good rant ? Just wait for the Philly fans to start up about the Refs (actually, I should say continue since they have been complaining since Game 1 against the Caps).
