Milestone Year for Gagne?

Posted 11:06 PM ET | Comments 3
Simon Gagne is in reach of many milestones this coming season. For those of you who have had the privilege of seeing him skate during training camp, you know he is looking great. Gagne had a very rigorous off season training routine and is ready to come back to his team leading numbers. It seems Gagne has a chance to reach quite a few milestones this season...

Needs 73 games to reach 600 in the NHL and as a Flyer:
This milestone will ultimately be decided by Gagne's health. In 4 of his 8 NHL season he has played in at least 73 games. Gagne is known to miss a game or two every season with a stomach flu. As long as he can avoid any injuries, he should reach this mark.

Needs 79 games to reach 606 as a Flyer, tying him for 15th place on the Flyers All-Time List (with Reggie Leach):
Once again, this will be determined by his health. Gagne has only reached 79 or more games 3 season of his career. I don't see him reaching this milestone. He'll miss one or two games with an above mentioned stomach flu, which would take him down to 80 games. He's only have to miss 2 more with a minor injury to lose this one.

Needs 24 goals to reach 232 as a Flyer, tying him for 10th place on the Flyers All-Time List (with Mark Recchi and Rick Tocchet):
I definitely think this one will be reached. Aside from last season, Gagne has had a 41 goal season and a 47 goal season. I believe he'll defy these numbers this season and have a career year. However, this still depends on his health, but I doubt it will be that big an issue.

Needs 27 goals to reach 235 as a Flyer, tying him for ninth place on the Flyers All-Time List (with Rod Brind’Amour):
Gagne will reach this milestone (see above).

Needs 31 assists to reach 233 as a Flyer, tying him for 16th place on the Flyers All-Time List (with Dave Poulin):
Gagne has only reached 31 assists in 01-02 and 05-06. However, in the few games he played last season he had 11 assists. If Gagne stays on the assist past of last season, he will have 36 assists. However, Gagne has been a goal scorer, not a set up man, so this milestone will likely not be reached.

Needs 14 points to reach 424 as a Flyer, tying him for fourth place on the Flyers All-Time List among left wings and 15th place on the Flyers All-Time List (with Murray Craven):
This milestone will be reached hands down, no question. There is no need to explain, I feel it would be redundant after the past few.

Needs 42 points to reach 452 as a Flyer, tying him for 14th place on the Flyers All-Time List (with Pelle Eklund):
Once again, will be reached. Also, will not be explained because of redundancy.

Needs 70 points to reach 480 as a Flyer, tying him for 13th place on the Flyers All-Time List (with Mark Howe):
I feel this will be reached. I am currently predicting a 50+ goal season for Gagne. He had 79 points playing alongside Peter Forsberg. He also had 69 in a season where the Flyers ended dead last in the league, so I believe when we have a good team, this will be easily accomplished.

Need nine power play goals to reach 64 as a Flyer, tying him for 11th place on the Flyers All-Time List (with Rick Tocchet):
In the 05-06 and 06-07 seasons, Gagne went double digits in power play goals. I believe he will reach this milestones; once again I will spare you a redundant explanation.

All in all, these milestones are heavily relying on the health of Simon Gagne, but i feel he will be healthy this season and is ready to take the NHL by surprise when he steps on the ice for the 2008-09 season.

"He has never reached the 70 point mark, however he had 69 in a season where the Flyers ended dead last in the league"He had 79 points in 05-06 when Foppa was feeding him the puck.
