With the first selsction in the 2009 NHL draft the Islanders select...Listen guys/gals there is no guarantee that they will obtain the first selection let alone draft the guy you want.I understand its a bitter sweet process having a good chance at selecting first overall, but it also meens you need more help then that one pick can do for you. That being said it looks like Tavares and Hedman are both potential stars, but history will tell you that it's no sure thing. The key component is having the right people maiking draft day decisions. Which makes Isles fans even more nervous about that summer day in June that makes dreams come true for hundreds of teenagers from across the globe. The process is and should be an exciting and fun one for all involved including us as fans.So whether your an Islander fan who gets ridiculed for only having 12,000 fans at a game when we've been mired in obscurity for the past 8 years ,or your a Devils fan who finds something better to do then head over to the arena and sell out a Stanley cup final game.Maybe your a Rangers fan who swears by their sell out games and loyal fan base and refuses to acknwledge that they have become corporate sell outs and not actuall full houses, but dont tell them that its our secret. You simply want the orginaztion you root for to do its best and put a succesfull product on the ice.
After the big two this years draft seems to be a pretty good one in comparison to the last couple with the ISS rankings of 3-30 looking like this.

So if your Atlanta,Tampa Bay or the Islanders don't fret if you manage to play yourself out of the top 2 you can still make an impact at this years draft. That is ofcoarse if you have the right people making the selections. No need to worry right...

The Islanders are pretty much guaranteed one of the top 2 picks. With the draft lottery you can only move up 4 spots from where you finished and one spot back. So unless the Islanders can crawl out of last place, they get one of the 2.

Certainly seems a very strong class this year - I was reading somewhere that the top 22 or 23 picks in this year's draft are projected to be playing regularly in the NHL within the start of the 2011 season (that's two year's after being drafted - that's bloody excellent if you ask me!)
