The Sharks worsened their HSBC Arena record to 1-13-1, losing to Buffalo tonight by a final score of 6-3. Flukes and turnovers mixed with a tired San Jose squad to spell a loss to end their road trip.

The scoring was opened at 12:18 of the 1st period with a fluke goal off a faceoff being shot by Cody McCormick, deflecting into the air off Paul Gaustad's skate, and hitting Dan Boyle's helmet before finally sailing into the net past Antti Niemi.

The scoring picked back up in the 2nd, with Buffalo goals by Thomas Vanek, and shorthanded by Jason Pominville, making it 3-0 before San Jose got goals from Logan Couture and Marc Edouard Vlasic to pull within one at the end of 40 minutes.

The Sharks didn't have a good start to the 3rd however, turning the puck over for another Buffalo goal 31 seconds into the period by Cody McCormick. Douglas Murray later scored to bring the Sharks to within one for the 2nd time, but it wasn't enough for San Jose, with Paul Gaustad scoring into the empty net, and Thomas Vanek scoring again with 9 seconds remaining to give the Sabres a 6-3 win.

The Sharks Logan Couture took over the team lead in goals with 14, and now also leads all rookies in points with 21.

Buffalo's Tyler Myers was a plus 5 for the game, but was held without a point.

Sharks Joe Thornton has not scored in Buffalo since February 5th 2004, but the drought is only 6 games long.
