Most other fan bases don't understand the suffering involved in being a loyal Maple Leafs fan. I couldn't possibly count the number of times someone has taunted me with, "1967". I cringe every time there is a team honoured at the ACC, because there will be only black and white footage, and people will be sure to point that out. A newsflash for all fans of other teams that ...

On Kadri and Kessel

Posted Friday | Comments 0
I will start off on a positive note: Kadri is lighting it up, leading the Leafs in scoring... from the 3rd line! Yesterday he put the team on his back and got his first NHL hat trick against the Islanders in a 5 - 4 overtime win. Don Cherry would beam about this and say, "I told ya so!", but I'm of the opinion that Kadri has developed into the player he is right now becasu...
There has been WAY too much going on in Edmonton. Basically, EVERYTHING IS HAPPENING. Here's part one of the week that was in Oil Country. It was announced yesterday that GM Craig MacTavish has fired Head Coach Ralph Krueger. A bit of a surprise, considering that MacT gave Krueger a vote of confidence when hired in late April. At the press conference, MacT adm...

Oilers coaching change

Posted Wednesday | Comments 0
Well the Oilers fired Kruger on Saturday and I must say, I'm a bit surprised. I wasn't a very big Kruger fan and I didn't really like him but the players seemed to like him and by the sounds of it I thought MacTavish liked him too. But I actually don't think it was actually that they wanted to fire Kruger but they wanted to hire the Toronto Marlies coach Dallas Eakins....
The tough of the track With the wind And the rain that's beating down on Your back Your heart's beating loud And goes on getting louder And goes on even more 'til the Sound is ringing in your head Who remembers Body Break? With Hal Johnson and Joanne McLeod? They were 90 second PSAs that aired in Canada and encouraged active, healthy living. The one where ...

Parallels

Posted Saturday | Comments 0
As the Edmonton Oilers celebrate the 30th anniversary of their first Stanley Cup, it's remarkable watching history repeat itself. Once again we have an exciting young team that everyone agrees is destined for greatness. But more than that, it's amazing how similar these players are to their predecessors. It's essentially a casting call for a re-imagining of the original...
We will be relentless with the rock. We will dominate time of possession with the rock. If we lose the rock, we will be like honey badgers trying to get it back. We will have the highest level of compete. We will run the most offensive plays you've ever seen. And you will tire out long before we do. The rock could be a puck or a football. The team could be the Edmonton...
We all know the number Eakins has done on Yakupov this year. Nail coming off a big end to last season and then starting this season on line 3 with 4 minutes of ice time. Then being called out by the coach for his lack of point production with his limited ice time and sub par line contribution after only playing 48 games in the NHL. Then he sits Yak 4 times this season. ...

Oilers Off Season

Posted Monday | Comments 1
There is a lot of disagreement as to what the Oilers should do during the off season. There are some people that would like to see one of the young stars traded for so other star. Realistically, these trades are not that common. Sometimes you will see a young prospect that is under performing (Paajarvi is an example) be traded for a player who had concussion problem...
Do not plan the parade. One cannot blame Eakins on all of Edmonton's losses for the past two seasons. It's as much the players fault as it is Eakins' fault. With all the skill Edmonton has up front, one would not expect the Oilers to be shutout 4 times in 31 games; or to lose 14 of their 15 games, including an 11 games losing streak. As bad as Eakins record showed (...
