Juniors Lose Close One 2-1 to Shawinigan

Montreal. Saturday, November 8, 2008. Entering Saturday afternoon's match at the Verdun Auditorium having won 2 games in a row, the Montreal Juniors were eager to extend their winning streak to 3 games against the league-leading Shawinigan Cataractes. Following their Friday night 6-3 win in Gatineau, the Juniors were only in need of 2 points to catch the Western division leading Huskies.

Shawinigan opened the scoring early when Cédric Lalonde-McNicoll scored his 14th goal of the year, his league leading 40th point of they year, for the Cataractes only 1:31 into the game. Juniors rookie sensation Guillaume Asselin turned in an excellent performance, replying for the Juniors with his 7th goal of the year only 5 minutes later.

Juniors netminder Jake Allen and his counterpart for the Cataractes, Timo Pielmeier, put up excellent performances, but it was the Cataractes who got the better of this defensive duel, winning 2-1. Brad Yartman's 1st goal of the year would prove to be the difference as Allen turned in 29 saves for the Juniors in the loss.

Montreal remains 2 points back of Rouyn-Noranda for first place in the Western Division. The Juniors will get a break now, having played 3 games in 4 nights, returning to action at home on Wednesday at 7pm to face the Titans from Acadie-Bathhurst.
