First and foremost, this blog is simply to provide a fun conversation as well as enjoying some of the rumors that are going on.

It is no secret that the Flyers are struggling, and in the cap era this seems to be the only time that major trades really have any traction. For the most part this also brings about big dealings at the deadline. In relation to the Flyers I have heard there is some tension between some of the Leadership in the locker room. It seems that Pronger may be good on the ice, but in that room's chemistry may have been kerosene on a fire that was starting to grow. I don't know how Lappy fits in there, but he was great for the Avs.

Lupul was traded this summer, and much speculation was made that he was traded to give the younger guys a message that they were supposed to be there to play hockey. Richards at points has pouted in front of the media. How much of this is rumor, and how much is true, and to what extent I don't know.

Now there seems to be, in my opinion, two central figures in the current locker room "issues" that the Flyers are dealing with. One being Mike Richards, and the other is Chris Pronger. Both are signed for the long term. If they can't resolve their issues, and Pronger thinks Richards is immature, and Richards thinks Pronger is trying to take his team what do you do? (Flyers fans are welcome to correct this perception)

In my humble opinion, I would trade Richards. You can't trade Carter, and you can't trade some of your other prospects that the future is built around. However, Richards was made Captain in order to lead the new prospects. However, with Pronger signed long term is that necessary? Pronger is also cheaper to keep for the long term based on cap numbers.

Jeff Carter is un-tradeable based solely on goal production. Hartnell might be an easier trade for the fan base, but he is affordable and based on what I read on this sight the fans love him(not that they don't love Richards). Giroux isn't likely traded, and other prospects the Flyers have aren't likely either.

So that brings me to the Avs, if you were Sherman would you make a call to the Flyer's organization and ask what it would take to get Richards? My proposal would be Stastny and a 2nd rounder for Richards, and one other contract(Flyers fans tell me who you would let go of) to be able to afford him.

The thing is that it feels like the Flyers are losing momentum fast and the Avs could use a guy like Richards as well for personality, grit, and Penalty kill.

What do you think about Stastny setting up Carter for goals? Paul is a passer and would likely do very well with that pairing. Stastny is also very good defensively and is strong on the puck. Any takers?

If not that trade what would you trade if you were the GM's of the prospective teams? Would you trade at all? If not why? Lets have some fun with this one, love blogs where we play GM.

Stastny and a 2nd for Richard? Is this a joke ?

Richards is a better all around player. Stastny may be better offensively. I still don't think it makes sense for either team.

No way. I think Stastny is too important to the way this team is set up. Stastny makes Hejduk and Wolski better players and also very strong on both ends. Stastny is also younger and has a better point per game average.

No way the Flyers trade Richards. He is a good player and their leader. But Stastny is our best player. He has been lights out for us this year, scoring important points, killing penalties and winning face offs. If Stastny played in the East, where players are overhyped (even the good ones) then this proposal wouldn't seem so slanted. I don't even think you would have to add the 2nd personally.

Phaneuf for Richards straight up

or Phaneuf, Jokinen and a pick for Richards and Carle?

I don't know why but I can't seem to leave comment after the initial blog. After looking at the numbers again, i think to get Stastny the Flyers would have to give more. Point per game, solid defensively, and trusted in all situations. The Flyers also have to give more than one player to make it work under the cap.

colordao is getting ripperd, dick has shown his worth this year, zero leadership qualities

Richards isn't going anywhere. Whether he stays the Captain... that's a good question.

I would say Carter is more likely to be traded than Richards. Colorado doesn't need another center though. How about Wolski for Hartnell?

Wolski for Harnell is a terrible trade. Wolski is young and when on his game a pretty dominating player. He's lacking a little in consistency but I guarantee he would come back to haunt us if we move him. Especially for that cheap.

Too much invested in Richards at this point. He may or may not lose the "C", but I'd be stunned to see him gone.

no way Philly would trade Richards. Carter would easily be traded over Richards.

I'd take Wolski for Hartnell in a heartbeat. Problem is it leaves Philly w/no power forward types, which is what they're light on to begin with.

Richards is not better defensively than Stastny. Stastny can play in all three zones. I would not trade Stastny for Richards at all. Richards hasn't shown he can produce offensively on a consistent basis. Stastny has done it since his rookie year. I really don't know what is going on in the Flyer lockerroom but there is no chance I'd take a room disturber if in fact that is the case.

Carter goes before Richards. He's not a Philly style player. We need more goons.
December 17, 2009 1:53 PM ET | Delete
For a team that is ranked 20th in the NHL on the PK do you really want another goon?

Jsaquella is a douchebag

What in the HELL of you been smoking. If the Flyers trade away Richards, then i'm finding a new team until Paul Holmgren is fired. I never liked Pronger nor was I excited about his arrival. He hasn't shown me anything since being here and appears to want Richards "C". I'd show Pronger the door, along with Carter, how long has it been since he found the back of the net. Bye, Bye Hartnell and Carcillo and your stupid penalties.

This is more like science fiction than fantasy. Richards has a 12 year contract and will not be traded. The only reason talk of this is since you are an Avs fan that wants a superior player.

Clarkie16, first of all this blog was about SPECULATION! Meant for conversation. Second, I really do think Stastny is the better player. His numbers prove it. He is consistently a point per game player. You wouldn't want that?Synergy, you think Pronger is the problem then? What do you want in a trade for him?
