Mykonos, Greece. One of the largest party towns in Europe, a beautiful place, and here I am sitting in a tiny cabin room on the ship, sitting here sipping a rye and coke after our late seating dinner in the dining room writing about hockey. I’m no expert, but I think I’ve become what some people could call a hockey addict. Don’t get me wrong, I am enjoying this Mediterranean cruise the way it should, knowing how fortunate I am and taking advantage of every single moment. But when after dinner every night, the first thing I do on the way back to change is pay 20 cents a minute for internet to both check what’s new in the world of hockey and to check in with my friends from Hockeybuzz.com. Hockey is not big in Europe, and this ship obviously has no interest in it, and to the extent of my knowledge they don’t seem to know it exists. The only time I talk to anyone about hockey is either when people from Canada stop to comment on my Calgary Flames hat and back pack, when I am stopped by a familiar friend who is also a hockey fan, or when I log onto Hockeybuzz. Now that the finals are set, I can at least not worry about trying to access the scores and figuring out how all my pools are doing. With that out of the way, for any of those interested, a cruise through the Mediterranean is the experience of a lifetime. For example, today as I was taking in the breathtaking view of the harbor from the top of the island, and riding around on an ATV we rented for 20 Euro each; I realized just how lucky I am. The sights are beautiful, and the women even more so. As much as I am into hockey, it is after all just a game. We as fans tend to get over zealous with the sport and really get into it too much, and we let the little things in life pass us by. Something as little as the deep blue color of the Mediterranean sea, or something as large as walking through the Vatican and St. Peters Basilica really bring you down to earth and let you know how amazing life really is, and how lucky we all are to have it so good. Although many are not as fortunate enough to take a luxury cruise (I was lucky enough to go on my parents dollar, for the last time I might add) there is always something in life that makes it worthwhile. For me, it is also hockey, and I know for the fans of the Ottawa Senators and the Anaheim Ducks, life can’t get much better for them, and even more so for the players. The trip to the finals was their own luxury cruise, and I only hope they can all see how fortunate they really are. As it is now time for me to view the Greek nightlife, I bid you all adieu.
Super blog Teddy!
Ahhhhh....the Med! Enjoy it Teddy -- we're all jealous of you back here. And know that the Sens will take care of business despite your absence. GO SENS!
This is just a great blog. I love reading about new and interesting perspectives.....so easy to recycle other people's old material, but this was something fresh and different. Well done!
