It seems everyone in Edmonton is drooling over Wade Redden. Behind Bouwmeester, he is definitely the player Oiler fans want to see manning the blueline in the Big E next year.
Speculation is that because of Redden's contract and the Sens needing to resign younger stars that a Redden to Edmonton deal makes sense. We have the young cap friendly prospects and picks to do the deal no doubt. But does it end there?
Watching the Sens get pushed around by the Ducks makes me wonder if a bigger deal could be in the works. Wouldn't Matt Greene look good in a Sens uniform putting the hammer down on Selanne and McDonald? Couldn't the Sens use Raffi Torres to lay out a few Ducks like he did in last year's Western Finals?
Heatley or Spezza sure would look good as an Oiler. The Oilers could package up Greene, Torres, Horcoff, a prospect like Schremp or Cogliano and a couple of firsts for Redden & Spezza.
Horcoff is no Spezza but he has proven himself to be a capable #1 centre. Throw in some young up-tempo bangers like Greene and Torres and this deal makes sense. Plus it probably gives Ottawa the room to sign Heatley, Meszaros, & Vermette long-term.
Crazy big deal that will probably never happen but it makes sense.
from an oilers perspective I LOVE THIS DEAL too bad theres no way in hell it'd ever happen but good post regardless
No way in hell the Oilers are ever getting Spezza. Hell, my Habs are a better bet for that. If Schremp and Cogliano are your best prospects, you won't see a Cup for a while. At least we have Price to dangle if we want a superstar. Redden...maybe. The reason is that the Sens have the defensive depth to let him go. Problem is, Greene is no better than a #6 on the Sens (#7 if Schubert's on D), Horcoff is no upgrade from anyone on the Sens' second line, and Torres is a poor man's Bertuzzi, and I mean the version of Bert after the Moore incident. The Sens would be wise to stay away from Torres. Face it, you just don't have the assets you think you do, and next year will probably be as bad for you as this one was. In fact, I predict right now the Oil will be dead last next year. Your only real front-line player is Hemsky anyway, and even he is maddeningly inconsistent.
Also, if you get Bouwmeester, the Panthers are the dumbest team in pro sports. Don't you think they learned their lesson from the Luongo trade? Enjoy Ladislav Smid on your first powerplay unit!
Ridiculous. The Sens are building around Spezza. No one of Horcoff, Schremp, Cogliano, Torres or any first could come close to approaching him. remeber, he's still just 23. Maybe if the Oilers were offering John Tavares...
I hope the Oil don't get Tavares...
This is from Bob Mckenzie who knows a lot more about the NHL than me or doaf:Between now and the July 1 free agency period, Lowe would love to add a pair of top-six forwards and a quality defenceman. Lots of people think there's a better chance of doing that via the trade market than by free agency and Lowe has a lot of currency from which to deal.
Also, I said this trade probably wouldn't happen. But even with the win last night, the Senators need less flash and more crash.
