It is time for the third edition in my series of blogs about the new NHL jerseys. For those who still have not seen the all new jerseys:

Next up is the Atlanta Division.

New Jersey Devils:
Were changes made? It is sure hard to tell with the new Devils jerseys.. Only thing I notice was a slight change in the collar. One word that describes the Devils: consistent. Jersey is the same, so it gets the thumbs-up from me.

New York Islanders:
Unlike the Devils, the Islanders did make changes to their jerseys. Funny how the colours and logo stay the same but the jerseys look so different. Good news is that the home jerseys are no longer completely orange. Bad news is, the orange that is now there (on both the home and away jerseys) seems to explode off the jerseys onto your retinas (maybe because the blue is so dark?). Both jerseys have the same arms, orange separated by blue and white stripes. I think it would look better if the orange extended onto the shoulders, right now the orange looks it was placed on the arms randomly. What I really do not like is how the laces are blue on the away jerseys and orange on the home jerseys. What is wrong with good old white laces? Trying to be different I guess.. Overall, these jerseys are decent but nothing to write home about.

New York Rangers:
The Rangers got rid of the Statue of Liberty head logo and stuck with the classic, diagonal Rangers and blue/red/white colours. Nothing more to say as they seem identical to the old jerseys in my eyes. Overall, nice classic jerseys.

Philadelphia Flyers:
If you like calling Derian Hatcher a pylon when the Flyers wear their orange jersey, you are going to be disappointed. The torso of both the away and home jerseys is the same with the only real change happening in the arms. Around the elbow area, there is a wedge of white in the away jerseys, and orange in the home jerseys that is narrow at the elbow and widens at the inner elbow. Bit of a strange shape and looks a little odd. Should have stuck with the original design. Weird how that little change is so noticeable. Overall, they are still nice jerseys.

Pittsburgh Penguins:
The Penguins jerseys stayed relatively similar to the old versions. They feature the same colours and logo (although, I prefer the old regal-looking penguin logo). I wished they had kept the diagonal stripes along the bottom of the jerseys. This would have made the jerseys more distinctive and have kept them from the slightly boring look that other jerseys have (i.e. Sens, Leafs). Overall, they are still nice looking jerseys.

Summary
Not a huge amount of change in the Atlantic division jerseys, with the Devils and Rangers staying virtually the same, and the Flyers and Penguins making only slight changes. The Islanders are the only team that made significant changes. My rankings: 1. Devils, 2. Rangers, 3. Penguins, 4. Flyers, 5. Islanders.

*Comments are welcome, once again!

P.S. FISHFAN, if you're reading this, you don't have to tell me you don't care what the jerseys look like. I heard you the first two times.

cant disagree there. you hit the nail on the head with the atlantic. probably the division with the least amount of change, which is good in my eyes. keep up the good blogs on the jerseys.

I'm glad the Rangers jerseys are mostly unchanged. I don't like that apron-like flap at the bottom though. What's the point?

Nicely done Fluff. As an owner of a new Flyers jersey and several older style ones, I am glad that they did not change too much. The changes you mentioned in the arms are ok with me. I like the NHL logo at the neck and the type on the names seems to be larger than in the older model. Overall I am pleased with its appearance. Nice work. SYF

Think there's a special code that you can input and get all the new jerseys, but that's for xbox. Not sure about PS2.

My humble opinion about the isles jersey's... I hated them when they were released. In fact hated is too kind a word... reviled, loathed, despised, etc... However, after seeing them in game action this week I've had a change of heart (at least with the blues, whites will debut tonight.) They have an old school look about them with the laces, and the orange on the arm doesn't seem as hideous as I originally thought. I love the number on the chest, although I could probably do with out the numbers on the arms. 4 times on the jersey is probably a bit too much. Also FYI, the home jersey did not used to be all orange... that was the third jersey. Couldn't stand that uni. Made them look like pumpkins on skates.

I've also noticed that the jerseys tend to look better in person. Watching a Sens game the other day, the jerseys didn't look as boring because the players are moving, plus they're wearing pants, socks, etc.

And, I do know that the home jerseys weren't orange..
