If you look at a copy of the Ducks depth chart, you will notice something very odd. Right now they are carrying 3 goaltenders in Jean-Sebastian Giguere, Ilya Bryzgalov and Jonas Hiller.
This made sense when the Ducks started the season because JS was on the injured reserve, however he has since returned to the lineup and is playing a strong game. Also playing well is backup Ilya Bryzgalov which begs the question; Why has Jonas Hiller not been sent down to the Portland Pirates of the AHL? Jonas Hiller is not going to get playing time right now unless JS or Ilya gets hurt, so what is Brian Burke doing?
My two best guesses would be:
#1 Brian Burke wants Jonas to continue getting his feet wet and acclimated to the travel and the style of game (NHL vs. Swiss League).
#2 Brian Burke has an impending trade in the works for either Jonas or Ilya.
At this point in the season it seems that # 2 is the more plausible answer as Brian Burke needs to address the issue of additional scoring or the Ducks chances of repeating diminishes.
Does anyone else have any ideas as to what Brian Burke is doing?
Bryz to the penguins (e4)
Yes, Burke is preparing his speech to complain again about how K-Lowe wasn't nice when he signed away Penner when the Ducks play the Oilers on the 28th. lolMy guess is that they still aren't ready to make a deal for Bryzgalov as JS Giguere has only played two games. Maybe JS isn't even practicing every day and having Hiller around gives him some rest and gets some much needed experience for the young goalie. Also, I don't think burke wants to rush trading his goalie as there's not a log of demand right now only 6-8 games in the season. It may be a tough sell trading him with the glut of goalies available.
