Flyers needs

With all the trade talks around the blogs, I started to think about what kind of needs the Flyers have right now, its very interesting.
-We are currently tied at 9th in the league for goals for with 3.00 per game.
-We are currently tied at 10th in the league for goals against with 2.58 per game.
-Our PP is ranked 8th in the league at 20.9%.
-Our PK is ranked 9th in the league at 86%.
These are all respectable numbers in the top 1/3 of the league in all categories.
If you could tell Homer to make a trade to satisfy a specific part of the team, what would it be?
For me it would be a play making center.

Any idea what our turnover situation is? It seems like every time I get to see a game (I only get Pens and Caps games locally) we are turning the puck over like crazy. Does this sound right? Again, I only get to see what VS provides so I don't get to see many Flyers games. Kind of skews my perception of this team sometimes. Thanks.
i agree with the play making center but i think we also need a real enforcer not riley cote
Play making center???? A PLAY MAKING CENTER???? Didnt you just spend 50 million on a playmaking center?
I think we should get rid of Carter. He hasn't looked to great recently... shooting the puck wide... turn overs... out of position... I say trade him and get something while his value is still high...
I don't understand all the hate for Carter. His 7 goals aren't too shabby for a third line center (tied for 40th overall in NHL), his salary isn't too high, and he's only 22 for chrissakes. Sure compared to Richards or the other young stars around the NHL this is nothing too impressive, but give the kid some time. Plus, he has a monster wrist shot. Move him to the wing and find another playmaking center (Briere has Gags to take shots and Richards has, well, himself) and he could easily be a 40-goal scorer in a year or two.
Yea but the problem with Carter is he isn't laying the Center position well. He is getting his goals but he isn't in command of that line and needs to move to wing. And yes we did just pay 50 million for a play making center, and we also have another play making center in Richards. But I wan't 3 solid lines with play making centers with the amount of skilled wingers we have on our roster and in our system. You put another play making center between Carter and Upshall and this team could be deadly. Even though it would take Carter to get one most likely, I am just saying.
I really don't see how we are in a postition, capwise, to be thinking about any of this. Either Carter or RJ would have to be dealt (with other assets) to get anyone IMO. Anyway, say we could make a trade of some kind......who would be a good fit? How about this, would anyone trade Hartnell if the opportunity came up? Thanks.
Hartnell's salary is too high. Get used to him. And I am not too sure who would be the best fit, but I would be willing to trade Carter, as long as the return is worth it.
im not really high on trading a 22 yr old with all the talent in the world. he'll play his way to being a very solid contributor. hes shown flashes of brilliance and he doesnt look lost out there like pitkanen did. id only trade carter for very good value in return, not a shutdown center like was rumored with kesler.
They don't need to make a trade right now. They are inconsistent, but that is part of the price of icing a young team. If you expected a Stanley Cup contender this year, you were being overly optimistic. This year is the first step back, not looking for the final pieces.
I say trade Carter for picks, Next year's draft is really deep. He's gonna be tough to re-sign and I want to see how Potulny and Downie look. With Gags out and such a young team, it is gonna be tough to go too deep unless Forsberg comes back. Then we would need to trade Carter anyway. By securing a few picks, say Edmonton's pick from Anaheim, we'd be looking great for the future. Of course we could take Carter to arbitration and hope we get an offer sheet for him and then just take all the picks. Anyone notice Patrick Sharp has 10 goals for Chicago.
Agree with JSaq...this team doesn't need to be adding veterans or unloading youngsters at this time. We're not a Stanley Cup contender, nor are we a bottom-feeder.
Patrick Sharp joins Justin Williams on the "Young Guys That Hitchcock Buried" All Stars. Sharp is a great example of why you don't trade away young guys that are willing to work hard and get their noses dirty. It's also why I don't trade Carter, or Richards or any of the youngsters, unless the return is staggering. The Flyers have made enough changes, there's no need to make more at this time. In a month, maybe. But not now or the immediate future.
I don't beleive Carter is Arbitration eligible. And if a player is and the team takes him to Arbitration, or the player accepts a qualifying offer. He then cannot sign an offer sheet.
If Carter enters the arbitration process, then he remains the property of the Flyers until they reject the contract awarded by the arbitrator. He can not negotiate with any team other than the Flyers at that point. That said, I am not sure if he's arbitration eligible or not.
