Former Dallas Stars GM Doug Armstrong has reached a five-year deal to become the Director of Player Personnel for the St. Louis Blues. An official announcement could come as early as today.
Armstrong will work in an assistant capacity to current Blues GM Larry Pleau for the next two years, and then will take over the GM duties once Pleau's contract is up with the Blues. Pleau will most likely move to a different duty with the Blues once his two-year contract is up.
Armstrong was the assistant GM when the Stars won the Stanley Cup in 1999. He was expected to meet with officials from the Toronto Maple Leafs, but cancelled his scheduled appointment to take the job with the Blues.
he didnt sign as assistant general manager.but instead director of player personnel
They mus have changed the job title since I got the update. Please excuse the mistake. Thanks.
The job title has been changed on my blog.
He wasn't signed as the director of player personnel either. His official title I believe is V.P. of player personnel. His job has been described as anything to help the Blues--so can he fire Pleau then? Can he dump King, Cam, stay away from Ryan Johnson and an army of talentless fourth liners and play the talented and deserving players? And in case anybody wants to mention character players, fortunately there are those that have character and can play hockey as well. I wonder if he can coach a team and just fire Murray in the interm? Or say hey Andy, I think you better find a way to get this kid in the game or I'm gonna find me a new coach. In the meantime this will be very, very interesting since the Blues have basically admitted that Pleau can not actually do his job die to his wife's illness. No offense to the guy but damn, should he really be a GM when he can't really travel away from St. Louis and perform all the duties required of a GM?
