No. Buffalo is not David. The President's Trophy winning Buffalo Sabres take the ice at the HSBC Arena against the "projected longshot" New York Islanders tonight at 8pm. The Islanders know that tonight marks the start of their season.
3rd string goaltender Wade Dubielewicz gets the nod from coach Ted Nolan to face this powerpacked Sabre squad for game 1. Is he worried about facing the most potent offense in the NHL during the regular season?
Dubielewicz has excelled at every level of play in his career and now wants to show the NHL, and himself, that he can do it. Using his stick in ways that take you for a time warp, Dubie is single handedly trying to ressurect the poke-check. A popular picture making it's rounds on the internet today is the save Dubielewicz made on Brylin of the New Jersey Devils, except replacing his stick with a lightsaber. A fan thought up this great idea when Dubielewicz came to the ice with Yoda (from Star Wars fame) on his helmet.
This series is full of potential from both sides of the ice. Ryan Miller has been on top of his game and has been to the dance before. The Sabres back line is fast, agile and can bury the puck in the net. The Buffalo offense is exactly that, offense. High powered, fast as jack rabbits, and can burn you six ways from Sunday.
On the other side, Wade Dubielewicz will try to keep that magic from his 4-0 run alive. The Islanders backline, while bruised, can still level a good bruising of their own. The New York forwards, streaky at times, but if they click during this series, they can make life pretty bad for the Buffalo defense and their able netminder, Miller.
Roughly 7 hours and change till the drop of the puck in Buffalo. I am sure the Islander faithful and those bums from Buffalo (little joke, Sabre fans, if you would notice I live in Orchard Park, you would get the joke) will be glued to their tv's if they are not able to attend tonights highly anticipated match.
Lets. Go. Islanders.
