Speaking with a few sources in the past day or two, I've been told that the Rangers and Coyotes are talking about a trade that would send Montoya, Malik and Kasper's salary to the Coyotes for Jovo and a top prospect.

At the moment, no one knows which prospects are being talked about, but we know that Rangers are asking for a forward in return.

Folks, I think from the Coyotes side, they should run with this deal. They dump Jovo salary on the Rangers. Coyotes win.

The Kings also called the Rangers about Montoya, but the Rangers wanted Jack Johnson in return, which ended the talks before the end started.

I'll be back later with more on these talks.

P.S. - To all those who follow me, I'm trying to hammer out a deal with Eklund's and HockeyBuzz so this can be my officially home. We'll see what happens. Maybe we'll see Eklund's post an title stating "CODE TO HOCKEYBUZZ (E5)".

Jovo is not going to NYR, he doesn't want to and has a no movement clause. That, plus that deal is awful for Phoenix. Let's see, lets give up a top dman in the league AND a top prospect for an over paid over the hill player, a ok dman in Malik and a back up goalie.................nice try.

No way this deal would come through. The coyotes are giving up way to much for nothing.

HJey i'm not going to question after you pulled the giordano story out. This has the sound of a legit deal too. By the way the giordano thing is now being reported by local media.

I don't know how true the thinking is that the Coyotes are desperate to get rid of Jovo's salary as portrayed here, but who knows. The salaries of Malik and Kaspar basically eat up Jovo's for the coming year, the Rangers take on the responsibilty for the rest of the contract and miss out on two overpaid players becoming UFA's and leaving their payroll in Malik and Kaspar. Then you have Montoya, who is not just a "backup goalie" going the other way for a offensive prospect.Could it be Blake Wheeler?
