Pens Fall to Hurricanes

Posted Thursday | Comments 0
Hey pens fans, Tonight, the Pens were in Carolina taking on the Hurricanes. The Pens lost 4-2. Brooks Orpik scored his first goal since 2005 and Malkin had the Pens' other goal. Sabourin was in goal stopping 42 of 46. The Pens' penelty kill struggled tonight and allowed 3 goals. The Pens only had 20 shots on net, as well. It was a mediocre effort for the Pens and th...

Almost Gutcheck Time

Posted Thursday | Comments 0
The regular season has only 5 games remaining. The (expected) playoff birth has been obtained an now it's really just a question of heading into the post season playing good "playoff hockey" and above all...staying healthy. I know the team and the fans would like a division championship...at least...and maybe even first place in the conference. But honestly to me...

Change Of Heart For Orpik?

Posted Thursday | Comments 0
I'm a little perplexed right now about what to think with this scenario. First I hear that Brooks Orpik doesn't like Michael Therrien. Now all of a sudden according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Orpik and the Penguins are sitting down in serious contract talks. Let me explain my side of this. Brooks Orpik is and has been one of my favorite Penguins players for qu...
I'm a firm believer that things happen in groups of threes, for better or worse. I'm probably even tempting fate by writing this, but as far as I'm concerned we just got dealt two blows today. Brooks Orpik has declined the Penguins first offer and former Penguin Martin Straka is heading home to play for his Czech team. Both of these may not be as big a deal in the en...
So far, this "Free Agent Frenzy" has been more like a free agent bore. But there was no lack of re-signings before noon, including Aves Defensemen Liles. I personally was hoping the Sabres would pick up Liles and Orpik. Plan C is prabably Striet of Montreal. Only time can tell, but I can tell you one thing. If they do nothing HSBC Arena will be up in Flames. By the way, go...
Yesterday the Sabres signed goalie Patrick Lalime to a 2 year 1 million per deal. Lalime played for the Blackhawks last year, but is mostly known for being the starting goalie for the Senators before the lockout. As for defesemen, the Sabres only chance is Orpik. With Striet signing with the Islanders, Rozival back to the Rangers, and and Commodore to Columbus, ...
Let me clear something up. Now that Brooks Orpik has signed with Pittsburgh, some Sabres fans have looked back to Andrew Orpik's comments to the Buffalo News a few days ago and shaken their heads, comments they thought all but assured Buffalo was a likely destination for the d-man: "Buffalo is a place he'd definitely want to come," Brooks' brother Andrew told the Buf...

Most Talented Division

Posted Friday | Comments 0
Most people argue and debate which is the best division, the toughest, weakest and toughest to win. But not many people have thought to see what was the most talented division and i will let you decide with the Allstar Teams for each division. Northwest All-Stars Lineup Iginla-Sakic-Gaborik Smyth-Horcoff-Stastny Sedin-Sedin-Hemsky Gagne...
...why the Leafs signed Jeff Finger? Well, at least I got a Finger joke out of the way early on. When the numbers 3.5 over 4 were first thrown around on the AM640, I figured it was a fantastic signing as Finger was one of the more underrated players in the league I hoped the Leafs would go after. I figured something in the range of $1.5-2M would be a great bargain, b...
The New York Rangers sent qualifying offers to RFA's Dubinsky, Callahan, Korpikoski, and Zherdev. Callahan and Zherdev are scheduled to go into arbitration at the months end. A Swedish source close to the Korpikoski camp said the former 1st round pick was disgusted with the Rangers offer. Disgusted, if anyone should feel this way it is Blair Betts who the Rangers Faithful ...

Tortorella is Off the Mark

Posted Saturday | Comments 0
I have respect for John Tortorella as a coach. He's a straightforward guy that has taken a team that has underachieved for many years (when you look at how much money they have spent versus victories) and led them to the top seed in the Eastern Conference. There's a lot to like about the way he has handled the Rangers. Of course, Tortorella has a Stanley Cup ring,...

Movie Swap Pt. 2: Miracle Recast

Posted Wednesday | Comments 0
As the NHL lockout continues to drag on, there isn't much hockey news here in America that is really worth writing about. The AHL and many other minor and junior leagues are playing out their seasons as usual but are harder for many people in certain areas to attend. On the heels of last nights election, I was in a bit of a patriotic mood and decided to do another hock...
Last summer we saw Chiarelli trade Boyd Gordon for Korpikoski; a move which angered some people. Gordon was a great defensive centre, and a right shot to top it off. The Wagon Line of Hendricks, Gordon, Klinkhammer provided Edmonton with a great shutdown trio. Trading the pivot of that line for a 3rd/4th line winger with a bloated contract was... strange. Or it least it...
Many may say that Brooks Orpik isn’t what the New Jersey Devils need. He’s an aged veteran, that’s a bit slower than your average Devil these days. Or Is Orpik just what the Devils lack at the moment. A defenseman that won’t be pushed around. He does the pushing, the checking, and the hitting. Something the Devils severely lacked on their blue line th...
