Qualifying Offers to...

Now I know this was mentioned in the Marchell blog by sharkiesgirl, but I felt it deserved it's own thread...

Pollack made a small note that qualifying offers have been extended to Ryane Clowe, Christian Ehrhoff, and Marcel Goc.

I'm happy that talks with Clowe are progressing. The team really needs him back, and if he can stay healthy, will be a great attribute next season.

At first, I had mixed feelings about Ehrhoff. He showed great ability at times, and at others severely disappointed me. But then I read something that gave me a new opinion on Ehrhoff and now I will be disappointed if he doesn't return. I never realized it, but he has a career +/- rating of +31....that's really freakin good for a guy in his position (I was skeptical of this at first and checked out his player profile to confirm its true) . If his play-off performance was solely attributed to his "ankle injury" then I will feel very confident in his return. Check out the article that gave me the insight and gauge for yourself:

Goc is the one I don't like the idea of returning, but someone on the Marchell thread mentioned his performance could be directly linked to RW (which can be said about many on the team) and the style of play being adopted at the time. If that is the case, hopefully McLellan can bring out the best in him once again.

I trust Doug Wilson as a GM and am confident that he is picking specific players that will fit into the future style that McLellan is planing on implementing. Or at least I hope...

What is your thoughts on the probablity of Ehrny accepting the offer? I think he is a very underrated defensive player, who could bloosm into a good shut down guy.

If he's given the right deal, then he'll stay. I think that the Carle signing kind of put the team in a tough spot though (3 mill/yr) and he may want to get that too. If he does, I can't see paying him that much, unless we don't sign Campbell.

I hope he stays in SJ and continues to perform so...well?...in the playoffs.

One player i hope does not come back is rissmiller. Gosh that guy makes me have this really bad feeling everytime he touches the damn puck. no offense to him but i think that Logan will take his spot next yr. cuzz we need our first round pick that people say is awsome to get some ice time. Anyone now if Ty Wishart will get a chance this year?

Ehrhoff was injured big time prior to the post season due to an end of the game cheap shot taken on him up against the boards, by the Kings on April 1st. A lot Sharks fans watching him in the second half of the season will attest that he was playing the best defense of his career and potentially the best shut down D on the team to that point. As far as Clowe, they had better work something out for him! The fact that other teams are talking about him in spite of missing the season, speaks that he is a valuable commodity in this league and if he is healthy he will put up some offense. The guy can fricken drop people with his punch and he is one gritty Newfie that a lot of players don't want to get on his angry side.
