Are You Superstitious?

Posted 12:13 PM ET | Comments 17
I think we would agree that most players are at least a little superstitious and we can understand why they might be. But why are some fans superstitious? Do we really think that something we do can affect the outcome of games or the performance of players? Does wearing the same clothes or eating the same meal on game days affect your favourite team? Will something bad happen if you don't follow through with your routine? Maybe, maybe not.

Saying all that, here's a little thing I've noticed. Last season, I put up my Sens car flag at the start of the play-offs, and we all know what happened. This season, I misplaced my flag and didn't replace it through the first three rounds and the Sens made it through quite comfortably. During the way-too-long-break, I replaced the flag and put it up on my car. Through the first two games of the Finals the Sens aren't looking too good. So, what should I do? Leave my flag alone to prove that nothing I do as a fan can affect the team OR take it down just because you never know?

get it off! Get It Off! GET IT OFF!Think of it this way. If you take it down and they win, you're a hero. If you take it down and they lose anyway, you'll know for next year AND nobody can blame you.

Take the flag, roll it up nice and tight, and threaten to shove it up Spezza's nostril if he doesn't stop screw

I don't condone the use of a Senators flag in anyone's vehicle.

Fluff I would say to do whatever makes you most comfortable. I don't believe that leaving it up or taking it down will have any affect on the outcome of the series, only on how you feel about it so the choices it yours.

Fluff, I did the same thing - I replaced my broken flag with a new one between rounds! Maybe we should both take our flags down at this point! But then, we might be seen as jumping off the bandwagon, which is certainly not the case!

Members of the Sens not only LOOKED DIRECTLY AT and TOUCHED the Prince of Wales Trophy when they won the Eastern Conference - they SKATED WITH IT!!Put your flag up, take it down, get a new one, fix the old one - it really won't matter. The worst faux pas in the hockey world is to be glad to get one of the "lesser" trophies. I really wanted to cheer for the Sens but when I saw the above, I knew it was all over. Nobody on the Ducks left a fingerprint on the Western Conference silverware.

Last time the Ducks made it to the Finals, they didn't touch the Conference trophy and they lost anyway.

Flufflet, you miss the point - NOT TOUCHING does not guarantee a win but TOUCHING...well, history is against the team that does so...
