With hockey fever raging through Buffalo unchecked, that can mean only one thing. We are one day from game one. Sabre players have said they are not looking beyond the Islanders and have laid very classy praise on Ted Nolan and his boys from the Island. Are the Islanders equally prepared?
We have not heard much from the Islanders camp beyond news about Rick Dipietro still recovering and the high possibility of Richard Zednik returning to the lineup. The Islanders packed the house at Iceworks for practice and were mobbed for autographs and pictures, yet still everything was very hush-hush about the series. Head coach Ted Nolan was the only person to say something and I think it echos for the entire team.
"Gentlemen, start your engines!"
Picked by everyone to be gone in 5 or less, the Islanders are going to try to break a few Sabre hearts. The Sabres have something to prove, after years of disappointment, they are in perfect position to go the distance. The Islanders have something to prove as well. They are going to try and prove they are no fluke. It will not be easy, as these Sabres are going to roar out of the gate and give our boys their hardest test of the season. Miro Satan summed it up best.
"It's going to be a challenge for us all,"
When the puck drops, will the Islanders be ready to answer that challenge?
If there's one thing I'm sure about in this series... it's that Miro and Yashin will wilt under the playoff pressure.
great blog!
SNARF!But seriously, If you don't know what Smytty brings to your team by now, by the end of this series (win or lose), you will...
Yeah I agree. Yashin won't do squat (27 points in 43 career PO games) but Satan is about a point/playoff game player and Ryan Smyth brings A LOT to the table. The Isles big D led by Witt and Poti need to drive the Sabres forwards into the boards and keep them out of the middle. It's the only chance they have.
Great job. Let's Go Islanders!
