The Jets had 6 of their top 8 scorers playing last night. The Oilers had 2. The Jets were playing their top goalie while the Oilers played their backup. On paper it should have been a bloodbath and the first period certainly reflected that. However some PP opportunities and stellar goaltending saw the Oil finish on top.
Final Score 4-1 Edmonton
GOOD THINGS
PP IS BUZZING: With the NHL being more strict with calling penalties, the Oilers are certainly a team that is going to benefit. The PP struck twice with Letestu and Jokinen both capitalizing. The Nuge was quietly very effective on the PP with both players.
NOT A JOKINEN: Jussi Jokinen has come as advertised in his brief time with the team. He handles the puck very well and has shown his ability to finish. The fact that he and Nuge already have formed a bit of chemistry is a good sign moving forward.
KHAIRA SHOULD BE PICKED IN THE FIRST ROUND OF YOUR FANTASY LEAGUE: Little wordy title but Khaira has certainly shown up to play this preseason. The big man looks to have gained a step in the off season and moving faster than I remember. He is not only throwing his body around but he has shown that he can produce, scoring again last night. Great story thus far.
YAMAMOTO: He should not make the team he should not make the team he should not make the team... I still think it's best for him to go back to junior for a year but Kailer is certainly making his own case. He was buzzing again all night and was able to do so against an almost fully stocked NHL team.
BAD THINGS
BOOSOIT: Brossoit still makes me very nervous whenever the puck is in the Oilers end. He just seems too wild and never really looks in control. Want to see him get in a couple full preseason games soon.
BYE KELLY: Chris Kelly has been mediocre to bad thus far. I'm assuming he was invited as a favour so that he could get another team to notice him but he certainly isn't helping his own case right now.
All in all a good showing by the team. This game was really about giving some kids a chance to play against veteran players and guys like Yamamoto certainly showed up. I thought the team would make cuts before this game and was wrong but I am certainly betting on cuts coming soon.

SUCK IT JEROOOOOO
Looks like Cloutier took the hint and fucked off....at least he's smarter than that cocksucker JB.
When do you get out of "time out"?
Im feee now!
I don't agree with your opinion on Brossoit. Aside from that one goal (which was a beautiful setup), he made some key saves that helped Edmonton in terms of confidence and momentum. Don't forget that the post was hit 4 times while he was in net. Pretty sure that rattled him and his focus, hence why you think he seemed wild/out of control.
Hell, I would be crapping myself as a goalie if I heard the post ring in my ear 4 times.
One thing I may be inclined to lean towards is that Ellis is closing the gap on the Brossoit vs. Ellis convo for the current backup choice. I still think it's best if Ellis spends a year in the AHL. It would definitely help him in terms of development.
Ummmm....when the puck hits the post it almost always means the goalie was beat. No goalie would ever let a puck by them because they were ' pretty sure' it was just gonna ding the iron.Youre not as stupid as Oildumb but you're a contender.
Talk about taking things out of context. That 'pretty sure" is supposed to mean that hearing the post ring 4 times in your ear must have (as evident) be correlated to Brossoit's wild/ out of sync stature which was evident at certain moments. Also, if the post was hit, that shot must/usually have/would be been a damn good one if it came that close to getting into the net. If you look at the angles of all the shots that hit the post, some, if not all were at some pretty demanding angles from Brossoit's perspective. Not trying to say that Brossoit played like an elite goalie, but he definitely did the best he could do considering the variables in play.
Well no shit he did the best he could. He's in no position to mail it in, dipshit.
