I thought he handled the offseason pretty well so far. Sure, he overpaid for Hamrlik, but Hamrlik is still a quality #2 defenseman. Smolinski was a great pickup, and a vast upgrade over Bonk. Not too much was neede here, as the youth is arriving in droves and they're pretty good.
Yesterday I saw that the Canadiens had made an offer to (gulp) Patrice Brisebois for 700K. My first thought? NONONONONONONONONONONO. This guy was booed out of Montreal. His inability to play defense, supposedly his position, drove fans like me bonkers for years. Gainey, you putz, you just got rid of Niinimaa, now you're bringing in the same problem times three. If Breeze By accepts this offer, he better be placed in Hamilton for the whole year, like Jamie Rivers is likely to be, but it's debatable if he can be any good there. Patrice, you sucked in Montreal, you sucked in Colorado, hang them up. That, or sucker the Oil or Leafs into overpaying you.
Wow classy way to finish off your otherwise interesting post
Ya no kidding.
Hehe. I love how Leafs and Oils fans responded first... no doubt from the last comment. I might as well join suit. You rascal! Why I oougghhttaaa!
Breezer is a good 5-6 D-man just not a good 1-2 D-man like he was in Montreal.
Sorry, i don't like either Edmonton or Toronto, I guess I let that shine through. And Brisebois isn't a good defenseman in any role. Maybe he can be the equipment manager. But anyone who actually watches him attempt to play defense should agree with me.
Brisebois is Niinimaa and Brisebois all over again...
after clearing house of useless guys like Audette, Dykuis and then after an eternity the final piece in Brisebois, we think we finally have a team without those "oh man, why did he do that" guys, then we bring in Niinimaa. It was okay because it got rid of Ribeiro, but now that Janne was sent packing, why bring back another one of those guys? Brisebois isn't a 5-6 D-man on the Habs, maybe on CLB, but not MTL. Guys like Dandy, Franky and Streit are way better than Patrice (that's after Markov, the Hammer and Komi). Hell I'd even throw Jorges up the depth chart ahead of Breeze By. Patrice would be 5-6 on CLB, WAS and possibly ATL an even those are stretches.
gainey knows what he's doing, i have confidence, and if he does play, it won't be much, mostly watching from the press box and in there when injuries start up.
