It's A Joke

1 game for Pronger? Does the fact that he's a repeat offender play into this anywhere? I don't care if this is the Finals, that warrants more than one game, especially since Pronger is stupid enough not to learn from the Holmstrom incident.

Also, the league says they suspended him because McAmmond was hurt on the play. That shouldn't matter at all.

I wonder, if this was, say, Shawn Thornton, if he would only get one game. The status of the offending player shouldn't matter either.

Chris Pronger is a dirty player. And he deserved at least 3 games for what he did. And I think even I'm being generous, given his hstory. But, the NHL comes through with a limp-wristed punishment again. I tell you, he's gonna keep doing this until the NHL sends him a serious message.

How about Neil? It seemed like five or six strides in from the blue line, left his feet, and walloped McDonald with the flying elbow to the head, after the puck was long gone. That was more than finishing a check, that was intent to injure if I've ever seen it. Pronger, though he deserved the game suspension, did not cause the injury. after looking at the replay again, he glanced the side of McAmmonds helmet and his head hit the ice. McAmmond looked as if he was "acting" a bit until he spanked his dome off the ice hard enough to knock himself out. Dirty play by Pronger but not as bad as the Neil hit on McDonald.

I'm not saying that Neil shouldn't have been suspended...BUT Pronger got what he deserved, albeit a bit light in my opinion. The man has been taking cheap shot after cheap shot all playoffs long. I understand that it's the playoffs and that everyone's trying THAT much harder, but something needs to be done about him. Holmstrom was lucky he wasn't seriously injured, and who knows how long McAmmond could be out for. Colin Campbell needs to take a serious look at the NBA's suspensions and take note...Star player or not, intent or not, GET THIS CRAP OUT OF THE GAME!!!

Maybe it's because I grew up watching old school hockey, you know, no helmets, face shields, even the goalies didn't wear masks. I DON'T condone cheap shots, but maybe, just maybe, part of the severity of these hits, is the fact that there are pipsqueeks out there playing with 6'6" 260lb. players?

Good point, but, I'm pretty sure coming at someone with a flying elbow is against NHL rules, especially when it's preceded by a nice long head start from the blue line... otherwise known as charging.

jt, how come you never ee Chara flying at guys with hi elbows then? He's 6'9, and known as a physical player, but he's not dirty. The height argument doesn't fly with me.
