NHL Slate 7 After Action Review

After every slate I hold myself accountable and take a look at how my Breakdown takes panned out over the course of the slate. With 11 games on this slate I chose 3 games that I believed would set themselves apart and deliver fantasy ecstasy.

Dallas Stars @ Pittsburgh Penguins

Players Highlighted:

Evan Rodrigues ($3,500 DK, $4,600 FD)
I had high hopes for Rodrigues but recording just 1 shot on goal is simply the second worst possible outcome tonight. But at his price tag he shouldn’t have been a nuke to very many lineups.

Kasperi Kapanen ($4,700 DK, $4,500 FD)
Kapanen did exactly 1 shot on goal better, so things are going great. Another great role value play fails, again the price tag isn’t terrible but regardless of price tag bad performances are bad performances.

Miro Heiskanen ($4,700 DK, $5,900 FD)
It looked like there was potential for a big night for Miro when he picked up an assist in the first period, but that’s where the good times ended. Heiskanen only had 1 shot on goal in addition to his assist.

After these teams had not played in a game with less than 4 goals and the Penguins hadn’t played in a game with less than 7, tonight’s contest absolutely disappointed with a 2-1 shootout final and less than 60 shots on goal. Overall this game has to be ruled an L, possibly a double L that’s how bad the Breakdown was on calling this game.

Vancouver Canucks @ Buffalo Sabres

Players Highlighted:

Victor Olofsson ($4,100 DK, $5,100 FD)
Olofsson picking up an assist and getting 4 shots on goal made him well worth his price tag. However missing the shots on goal bonus by 1 is slightly disappointing.

Quinn Hughes ($5,200 DK, $6,400 FD)
At the time of the writing of the Breakdown Hughes was questionable, he was ultimately ruled out.

Nils Hoglander ($4,000 DK, $4,600 FD)
We aim to find value plays and guys under looked in the Breakdown, but 2 shots on goal is not our aim, Hoglander plays in an excellent role and will be affordable but quiet nights will be commonplace throughout the season.

The Breakdown was spot on for this game as a great fantasy scoring environment, 7 goals and 77 shots on goals is exactly what we are looking for. As always hitting on the individual plays is more difficult and has more variance than the environment itself, which is the Breakdown’s main goal.

New York Islanders @ Chicago Blackhawks

Players Highlighted:
Anthony Beauvillier ($4,300 DK, $4,700 FD)
Beauvillier registered a goal which makes this call a win automatically, sometimes it’s as simple as that when the price tag is sub 5k.

Jonathan Toews ($5,200 DK, $5,400 FD)
Despite the role Toews holds on the Blackhawks he definitely disappointed tonight. Registering just 2 shots on goal and 1 blocked shot, he underwhelmed for any lineup he was in.

Alex DeBrincat ($6,800 DK, $7,300 FD)
Anytime we pay up for someone with a higher price tag that means higher expectations, 4 shots on goal is nice but missing the 5 shots on goal bonus hurts plus scoring no points makes DeBrincat an L considering his price tag.

The Breakdown called for offense in this game and 5 goals is middle of the road, there were certainly players that elevated lineups from this game but besides Beauvillier the Breakdown wasn’t very accurate.
