NHL DFS Breakdown 10/26/21

Here in the breakdown we’re going to identify the games with the best fantasy scoring environments for everyday of the NHL season. To do this we’re going to look at teams’ scoring chances for (SCF), scoring chances against (SCA), high danger chances for (HDF), high danger chances against (HDA), power play opportunities (PPO) and power play opportunities against (PPOA). The reason for applying those stats to this particular exercise is because they are the best indicator of a team’s scoring opportunities and we want to identify games with teams that possess the best combination of quality and quantity of scoring opportunities. I’ll also offer some of my favorite individual plays from each game using average time on ice (ATOI), average power play time on ice (PPTOI) and team role. We’ll be looking for players on one of the top two scoring lines and players on one of a team’s power play units.

Another seven game mid sized slate tonight, there’s three nice matchups I like tonight to attack for our DFS lineups.

Winnipeg Jets @ Anaheim Ducks

Totals: Highest 6 DK 5.5 FD 5.5

The Winnipeg Jets take their 2-2-1 record out to Anaheim to take on the 2-3-1 Ducks. The Jets have scored at least 5 goals in each of their last three games and two of their last three games have gone over 10 total goals. Winnipeg contests currently average 7.8 goals, 61.8 shots on goal and 8.2 power plays per game. The Jets rank 29th in SCF (88), 23rd in SCA (106), 26th in HDF (28), 14th in HDA (34), while their rankings underwhelm, Winnipeg has a league leading shooting percentage (13%). Anaheim comes home having dropped three games in a row, however all three of the Ducks’ most recent games went over 6 goals and one of them reached 11 goals. On the season Ducks’ games average 6.1 goals, 66.1 total shots on goal and 7.1 power plays. Anaheim’s ranking show a team giving up plenty of scoring chances to their opponents, ranking 25th in SCF (97), 5th in SCA (139), 28th in HDF (27) and 8th in HDA (39). The numbers lean in Winnipeg’s favor but Anaheim has shown an ability to hang with more skilled teams as evidenced by 1 goal losses to Minnesota and Edmonton. It should be noted that so far the Jets and Ducks have split their first two games this year.

Minnesota Wild @ Vancouver Canucks

All four of you that actually read my blog know that I plan to target Vancouver games all year. The 3-2-1 Canucks will host the 4-1-0 Minnesota Wild in what sets up for a fantasy friendly environment, like all Vancouver games do. The Canucks have won two of their last three games and all three games featured at least 5 goals. The Canucks’ games are averaging 5.6 goals, 66.1 total shots on goal and 6.5 power plays on the year. Vancouver ranks 26th in SCF (97), 8th in SCA (130), 28th in HDF (27) and 14th in HDA (34). Minnesota is coming off their first loss of the season, 5-2 to Nashville, and each of their last three games had at least 7 goals and one game had over 11. The Wild’s games are currently averaging 6.6 goals, 66.2 total shots on goal and 8.6 power plays per game. Minnesota’s rankings show that they generated plenty of scoring opportunities to take advantage of Vancouver’s lack of defense, ranking 11th in SCF (120), 31st in SCA (81), 16th in HDF (35) and 31st in HDA (23). The Canucks have plenty of matchup proof offensive talent and the styles of play by both teams should lead to plenty of chances for the Wild, this is a game with a chance to be the highest scoring on the night.

San Jose Sharks @ Nashville Predators

The 4-1-0 San Jose Sharks wrap up their road trip in Nashville tonight, taking on the 2-4-0 Predators. The Sharks have won two of their last three games with at least 7 goals scored in two of them. The Sharks’ games are averaging 6 goals, 55.8 total shots on goal and 6 power plays per game. San Jose has been very efficient as well, ranking 5th in shooting percentage (11.3%). The Sharks rank 32nd in SCF (75), 22nd SCA (107), 26th in HDF (28) and 13th in HDA (35). The Predators just put up 5 goals against the Wild and two of their last three games have featured at least 7 goals. Nashville’s games average 6 goals, 61.1 total shots on goal and 6.8 power plays. The Preds check in at 13th in SCF (118), 14th in SCA (120), 19th in HDF (33) and 27th in HDA (28). Nashville generates consistent offensive pressure and scoring chances while San Jose relies on great efficiency but both of these teams can score in their own way and that makes this game a dark horse to be the highest scoring game on tonight’s slate.
