The Fire Burns : Projection Of The Calgary Flames

Howdy my hockeybuzz fella's! I'm here to bring you another projection of another team, by the name of the Calgary Flames. A team which holds a tiny particle of my heart next to the other particle which is the Buffalo Sabres and the core, the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Flames have done some decent moves this off-season: They've added Adrian Aucoin, Anders Eriksson, Owen Nolan, Cory Sarich and of course new head coach, Mike Keenan. Departed from the team are Tony Amonte, Jeff Friesen, Darren McCarty, Roman Hamrlik, Byron Ritchie, Brad Stuart, Andrei Zyuzin and head coach Jim Playfair. Let's consider a few factors when analysing the Flames. Mikka Kiprusoff, for example, had a solid campaign last season but can certainly do better and I would expect an increase in his stats. Brad Stuart was a late season acquisition, so his departure is not as bad as it may seem. Also, despite the loss of 3 defenders, I think the Flames have gotten stronger on the back-end defensivly than last season. Cory Sarich is an underrated defender who led the Lighting in block shots and excels in defensive situations. Anders Eriksson led the Jackets in the +/- departement last season. And lastly, Adrian Aucoin is due for a comeback season after his horrendous tenure with the Hawks so I'm expecting a rebound from the 34 year old.
On offense, we have Craig Conroy as a late acquisition who has chemistry with Iginla and is an excellent two-way forward ( I'm predicting Selke winner). We also have Owen Nolan, who put up points in the 40 range after missing 2 years of action. If he plays with the right linemates, he just might be a solid 50 point getter for the Flames while adding some leadership.

All in all, I see the Flames finishing higher then their 8th place finish last season and if Kiprusoff and Iginla lead the way their capable of... a top 5 finish is in reach. There you have it motha trucka's! Enjoy!

I'd say that's pretty accurate! Good Job!! Prust is a maybe to make the lineup although I love what he brings and the brass is super high on him. Playfair is still with the team just as an assistant too, he's the defence coach which I think strangthens what youhad to say about the d. Stuart was never an impact guy here and Hamr took nights off too often, we'll see what the new squad brings!
Pretty solid here. I think the Flames will be much better with some discipline this year. They seemed to underachieve, particularly against the Red Wings in the 1st round, on the road.Another name I'd look at is Dustin Boyd. I've heard good things about him.
I think that as long as Iginla and Keenan can be on the same page all year, the Flames will be a great team. As a Ranger fan I know how Keenan can be hard to deal with for many players. He frustrated a LOT of players during ;94 season, and if it wasn't for Messier who stood up to him and protected his teammates when it was needed, the Rangers would have fallen apart. I think that Keenan is kind of like Herb Brooks from 1980 olympics - he pisses players off so that they hate him and have no time to hate each other. This way they focus on winning games. But I agree with your analysis - Flames will be improved from last year!
Good assessment Ron, but I believe the defense got a lot weaker with the additions of Adrian Aucoin and Anders Eriksson but they have Kiprusoff to bail them out, they will still battle for first in their division.
I think Iginla will get over a 100 points if he plays a full year. Calgary or Colorado will wear the NE crown this year.
