I just read Scott Cullen's (www.tsn.ca/nhl) previews for the upcoming season and was slightly surprised by his outlook and projections on the top 10 scorers for this upcoming season.
He has the top players ranked in the following order:
Crosby - 118 pts
Thornton - 107 pts
Jagr - 105 pts
Heatley - 104 pts
Ovechkin - 100 pts
Lecavalier - 94 pts
Hossa - 94 pts
Savard - 92 pts
Datsyuk - 86 pts
Zetterberg - 86 pts
with St louis and a Sedin close behind at 85 points. I don't have a problem with the order per se, however the number of points attached to each player is what caught my eye. While Crosby, Thornton and Jagr receiving 118, 107 and 105 points is roughly what I guessed they would get, the remaining players all seem to have low totals. The 12th highest scorer last year was Jarome Iginla with 94 points, at only 70 games played (I won't even go into my view on his projection of Iginla only mustering 80 points for this upcoming season).
Is he just overall being pessimistic, or did I miss something that indicated scoring was going to go down this year?

I laughed when he said Iginla would get 40,40.
All of his projections are basically the same as last year except he thinks everyone will get slightly less. I don't think he spent much time on them to be honest. You didn't miss anything, his projections are just too low. He also doesn't give upcomers much credit either. Malkin, Kopitar etc. he projects to do worse than last year as well which I just don't see.
His blog is also hard to read due to the bright red background against black font, as I said in an earlier comment that apparently was deleted. Give our eyes a break and change the red background!

I appreciate the comments on the design and have modified the blog entries color scheme, but for the record, I did not delete any comments.
Looks a lot better now, good job. And while you may have not deleted my comment, it disappeared somehow. No worries though, it's not a big deal.
Where's the rest of the Big 3? Where's Alfredsson/Spezza?
Where is half the league really. TSN just came out with the list of projected points and it looks like the old NHL points leaders, besides the top 3 players points.
