Love it or hate it, the outdoor game between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Buffalo Sabres brought the NHL a lot of attention from people other than hockey fans. The All-Star game is meant to do the same thing; the league showcases their talent to attract new fans.
So, my question is, why don't we hold the All-Star game outdoors (that is, when it's not in Atlanta)?
Think about it. One of the beefs fans had was that the game between the Penguins and the Sabres should not have been counted towards the regular season because of the poor conditions. But the All-Star game doesn't matter; it's an exhibition.
Wouldn't it be great to see 70,000 screaming fans and a national TV audience watching the league's best players playing hockey and having fun? This is a great way to expose non-traditional viewers to the game sand get them interested in hockey, without ruining the integrity of the game by increasing the size of the nets for more scoring or anything ridiculous like that.
Who's with me? How about an outdoor All-Star game in Minnesota?
Legace an All-Star?
Some people were surprised when Legace was named to the All-Star team, especially because Tkachuk and Kariya were the ones placed on the ballot for St. Louis.
But no on in St. Louis was surprised.
Manny Legace has been the best player for the Blues this year, hands down, no question.
Throughout the entire season, he has been consistently good, and he's the main reason why the Blues are 8th in the West with a good record. He's stolen too many games for the Blues to count and he deserves it.
If every team must be represented, then it only makes sense that the best player from each team should go. Manny's been St. Louis' MVP in my opinion.
Not a bad idea at all. The only question is - given the conditions in Buffalo at the last game, would people want to risk their all-stars for a game that doesn't matter?
I would LOVE to see this. People will say its dangerous for the players, but I don't think it is at all. The conditions may not be up to par, but its not something thats going to result in a ton of injuries, especially with the pace of the all star game as it is right now. I would also love if no matter how the game ended they closed out with a no helmets shootout, 5 shooters aside outside. That would be priceless to watch.
I also think this is a phenominal idea
Too bad Bettman doesn't have the same vision as you Mr. Jammer. Great Idea !!!!
It is a great idea. I think they're trying to do it few and far between to keep it special. I do agree it would never get old to me, but unfortunately we don't run the NHL =(
