"Go Flames Go!"

Alliteration is the key to any good blog title and I hope it caught your eye.

I often wonder what it would be like to be a Detroit Red Wing fan. They coast along in the regular season, amassing winning streaks and distancing themselves from the rest of the conference. Really, a Red Wings fan never has to worry. Those of them that show up to the games are really going to see how big of a beat down they might possibly see. Will Zetterberg pull off a sick move tonight? Will Dom somehow pull his arm out of socket and back in just to make that crazy save? Where's the fun in that?

Now being a Flames fan, you never know what type of game you are going to see...for instance if the Kings are on the sched for the next night, you might think "Hmm, this could be a good game to see our offense click a little against the struggling, young Kings D". Afterthoughts would be "Wow, are defense got out-hustled, out-skated and out-talented by a fast and energetic Kings team".

At this point (and every point) in the season you never really know if the Flames will secure a playoff spot. After some games you say yes. Heck, we can beat the Wild easily, we should be a shoe in. Wait, what do you mean we lost to a lower standings team? Shoot, maybe we wont' make it.

Things were starting to look good, heading into a 4-game road trip, we looked comfortable, the road-trip looked like a good chance to at least pick up 6 points (and I know we still can).

But we can't afford bad games now. It's frustrating to see bad penalties taken, it's fearsome to see us lose at least 1-point with just minutes remaining but you can't help but still be a fanatic.

*sigh*

Wonderfully cynical and sarcastic blog. Frustration is a pretty good one word summary for how I've felt the last two years about the Flames. In 2006 they won the division and looked like a good team, only to choke against Anaheim and humiliate themselves at home against Anaheim in Game 7. The year after that, Sutter decided to step down, except his replacement Playfair was too inexperienced for the players to take him seriously, on top of that Sutter destroyed the team chemistry with the worst trade he's ever made and they were humiliated in the first round again. So this year Sutter shocks everyone by hiring Keenan as coach. He doesn't substantially improve the team, though, and they aren't all that better from last year's squad. I have seen nothing to convince me the Flames are more than a first round exit this year (or even a playoff team, at times). And next year we're going to have to dismantle the team a little bit, what with the cap situation. I'm still optimistic the Flames can win a Cup in the next five years, but the Flames are utterly mediocre right now. To respond to your comment about the Wings, though: remember they've only gotten to the second round once since they last won the Cup in 2002, and that was against a horrible Flames team last year.

"Frustrating" and "inconsistent" are the words that best describe this team over the past couple years. They just can't seem to bring everything together at the same time. Starting and ending with consistent hard work and effort. This team is simply not good enough to compete with the elite of the West. Even if we make the playoffs, we won't be going very far. Second round, tops. The forced youth movement of next year should be interesting to see. And will Sutter finally be on the hot seat if and when we're bounced early once more? (Assuming we even make the playoffs...)

Welp, will you look at that, the Flames fell apart against another crappy non playoff team. Bonus: the winning goal came in the last five minutes. Great, just great....3-2 vs the worst division in hockey? People think this is a playoff team?

Wow. What a complete and utter gag. How do you blow a 3-0 lead on freakin' Atlanta? This might be the game that causes many, many changes come summer. What a thorough disaster.
