David Pollack wrote a blog this week reporting that there will be no remaining bridges between the Ron Wilson era and the new regime of Todd McLellan. The press in Toronto has been reporting the two assistant coaches will be joining RW's staff on the Leafs and sources in San Jose have also confirmed it to be true. The move will be made upon contract approval.
Pollack notes that Doug Wilson had always said that McLellan would have complete control over who will be included on his coaching staff, but also notes how this may open the door for other members in the organization, like Ricci or Marchment, to fill the vacant assistant positions.

Honestly, I'm not that surprised by the situation and kind of expected it to happen sooner. We all kind of figured that RW would end up taking his boys with him, and Hunter not getting the head coach position sealed that IMO. Also, I kind of figured that McLellan would want to have his own guys come in to work with, and I'm hoping his experience in the AHL developing young players has a positive impact on the ones on the team.
If there is an option of bringing Ricci or Marchment in, I would vote Ricci. He has a great chemistry with the players on the team and still has a good nose for the game. Also, his passion as a player is what the team needs to develop and maybe a stronger presence from him would achieve that.
i completely agree. though Marchment would be good for helping out the D. he could show our yngsters like carle and vlasic that hitting the opposing player is always better than getting hit. Plus he can help murray stay in position. Marchment was one force out there and could help the Defense be more physical but yet controlling themseleves to help the team to the best of there abilitys
you are a writing machine. Good blog, I assumed Hunter would go with him once he didn't get the HC position
Thanks, like I always say, I do what I can :)
Marchment as a coach? He couldn't teach a duck to quack...or waddle.
no need to mention a Duck in a Sharks blog
I think Marchment would be suitted to be an assistant coach. Primarly focussing on the backend and the PK. I don't think it would take long for someone like him to take the Sharks defensive abilities to another level.
