1 Buf vs 6 NYR - The Rangers have a fair bit of talent up front, and a slight goaltending edge, but the Sabres are simply too deep everywhere else. Sabres in 6.
2 NJ vs 4 Ott - Yeah, I know it's Marty Brodeur, but the Sens will not be denied this year...at least not here. If Emery comes close to matching Brodeur, the Sens win. Ottawa in 6.
1 Det vs 5 SJ - The Sharks are gonna wear the Wings out. They're younger, bigger, and just as deep. Sharks in 6.
2 Ana vs 3 Van - If Vancouver can find the back of the net, they could make the series interesting. I don't like their chances of getting by Pronger, Niedermayer, and Beauchemin to get through to Giguere/Bryzgalov. Luongo is fantastic, but he won't put the puck in the net. Ducks in 5.
Players to Watch:
Buffalo - Chris Drury. He'll be the guy draped over Jagr at every turn. Also, he has a knack for getting those clutch goals in the playoffs.
New York R - Sean Avery. Why else? How far does he get into the heads of the Sabres' players?
New Jersey - Zach Parise. New Jersey must establish themselves as a two-line team in this series to have any hope of advancing, and Parise is the must talented forward on their second line. He scored 6 goals in the first round, so we know he's capable.
Ottawa - Ray Emery. The question on everyone's mind is whether he can match Marty Brodeur. If he can, the Senators should win the series. If he can't, this will go down as another in a long line of failed Sens goaltending performances in the playoffs.
Detroit - Dominik Hasek. Has done nothing in the playoffs since the Wings last won the Cup. Must prove he can steal a game or two, because the Sharks won't roll over like the Flames did.
San Jose - Patrick Marleau. Always seems to come up big in the playoffs. Since most of the attention will be focused on Thornton's line, that makes Marleau's role that much more important.
Anaheim - Ryan Getzlaf. The Ducks have a good second line, but they're young, and Getzlaf is probably the most mature of the Ducks' young prospects. If he can pose a threat it will take a lot of heat off Selanne's line.
Vancouver - Markus Naslund. Invisible after game 1 against Dallas. Has got to show up if the Canucks are to advance any farther. Can you believe this guy won the Lester B. Pearson Award four years ago?
