Team Leaders:
Henrik Sedin, 23 points, 12 goals and 11 assists.
Ryan Keslar, 19 points, 5 goals, 14 assists.
Mikael Samuellson, 15 points, 8 goals, 7 assists.
Goaltending:
Roberto Luongo: 7 wins, 7 losses. 2.69 GAA, .906% on his saves.
Summary:
Another team that has been dealing with the loss of anticipated firepower for this season. Injuries happen to every team. Pavol Demitra and D. Sedin are the real losses for this team offensively at the moment. The bottom line is that Luongo has the ability to carry this team. The defensive unit for this team is a solid group of players and Salo has a shot from the point. When the Canucks are clicking they are a very good team despite the injuries. They likely will come out hard in the first period and try to get the Avs on their heels.
Colorado Avalanche:
29 Points, 13 wins, 6 losses, 3 over time losses.
Team Leaders:
Paul Stastny: 20 points, 4 goals, 16 assists.
Wojtek Wolski: 18 points, 9 goals, 9 assists.
Milan Hejduk: 17 points, 10 goals, 7 assists.
Goaltending:
Craig Anderson: 12 wins, 5 losses. 2.40 GAA, .927 save percentage.
Summary:
According to the post T.J. Galiardi and John Michael Liles are healthy and available for play. Adam Foote did not practice this morning which likely means he is out and Cumiskey has a new partner for this evenings tilt. Ryan Wilson doesn't look to be suspended as there is no word at this blog's posting. The Hejduk/Duchene combination seems to be producing results, but that leaves a goal scoring void with Stastny.
Things to watch for:
Look for the Canucks to try and bury the Avs early, build on their last win against this team. Look for the Avs to answer that quickly, and expect to see a lot of McLeod and Stewart pushing and stirring things up. Luongo has the ability to steal a game on any given night, and the key will LOTS of traffic for the Avs. Anderson should expect as much from the Canucks and Sedin and company will likely try and push the play early. I expect this to be a very physical game, and the Avs will have to answer with goals or plenty of physical play early to keep the crowd out of it.
X-Factors:
J.M. Liles- If Liles is on his game expect the break outs to go much smoother than they have the past several games. Also expect the Power Play to be run much better.
Ryan Keslar- If he is pasing well like his numbers indicate expect him to contribute. The Avs will have to key in him in order to be successful.
Alexandre Burrows- Expect the gritty winger to be involved in all the dirty parts of the game as well as trying to get the first line going. One of my favorite players to watch who is not an Av.
David Jones- The big power forward is getting more comfortable in his role. He can dish a big hit but also puts himself in vulnerable positions. If the Canuck defense gives him room to the outside expect Luongo to have to come up with some big saves.
Predictions:
Because of the embarrassing loss at home the Avs will be motivated to win. I however don't see it turning into a barn burner, but should be tight checking, physical affair dictated by the team who can run their break outs better, and clog up the neutral zone.
