With the 2012 NHL Entry Draft (finally!!!) upon us, there is wild trade speculation running rampant within NHL circles and fans and players alike are anxious to see what, if anything, goes down on the Draft floor tonight during round one in Pittsburgh…..or even tomorrow during the remainder of the Draft. There is all kinds of talk of teams moving up in the first round, moving down, or even moving out of it entirely for an established star player (Staal, Kane, Nash, etc). Some older names and also some more newly surfaced names (Yandle, Ryan) have started to be thrown about in various trade rumours. These players seem to be very sought after and with the Draft tonight and free agency opening on July 1st, any one or none of these moves may take place.
One name that has been bounced back and forth like a ping pong ball since the first round of the playoffs is that of veteran netminder Roberto Luongo. There has been wild speculation about if, when and where he'll be traded as the Canucks seem set to move forward with young talented RFA goalie Corey Schneider between the pipes. The list of suitors for Roberto Luongo has been steadily decreasing as perhaps once interested teams such as Tampa Bay have explored other options or thought otherwise and with 33-year-old Luongo's contract, which carries an annual cap hit of $5.33 million having 10 years remaining on it, it may be a tough sell to the one or possibly two teams that may still have some interest. Even if a deal does go down, the return the Canucks get won’t be nearly what the Olympic Gold medal winning goaltender is worth.
Having said that, Phenom’s Phunny Photos happened to come across an interesting poster in a few ice rinks and taverns in certain NHL cities. Make of it what you will……
Enjoy the Draft tonight HockeyBuzzards! May we all get what we think our teams need….
