Well the eastern roster is out and the habs, thanks to their loyal fans have 4 players in the starting lineup (they would have had 6 if it was not for pens fans). Lets look at the 4 players the habs have in the all star game (cant argue with Malkin and sid for starters)

# Pos Player GP G A P +/- PIM
79 D Andrei Markov 39 6 23 29 8 18
27 R Alex Kovalev 39 10 19 29 8 36
8 D Mike Komisarek 23 1 2 3 1 49

# Goalie GPI Min GAA W L OT SO SA GA Sv%
31Carey Price 25 1514 2.30 16 4 5 1 735 58 .921

Lets look at these numbers who belongs and who doesn't....its pretty simple. Komisarek and Kovalev have no place in this game!!!!! Because of fan voting these 2 took spots from 4 much more deserving players, so lets take a look at who im talking about

# Pos Player GP G A P +/- PIM
18 C Mike Richards 40 15 27 42 16 37
12 L Simon Gagne 37 18 22 40 18 16
19 C Nicklas Backstrom 41 12 33 45 6
81 C Philip Kessel 40 24 16 40 16 10

Each of these players is 10X better yet they didn't get in because of fan voting. Now lets look at the west and the 3 ducks and 3 blackhawks who got voted in.

# Pos Player GP G A P +/- PIM
88 R Patrick Kane 35 16 25 41 5 26
19 C Jonathan Toews 37 11 21 32 8 27
51 D Brian Campbell 37 6 22 28 7 6
15 C Ryan Getzlaf 40 15 31 46 4 74
27 D Scott Niedermayer 41 5 19 24 -1 44

# Goalie GPI Min GAA W L OT SO SA GA Sv%
35Jean-Sebastien Giguere 26 1482 2.96 11 9 4 2 807 73 .910

Ok so lets look at who doesn't belong....Toews, Niedermayer, Giguere. Thats 3 spots (2 positional players and a goalie)that could have gone to the following players

# Player GP G A P +/- PIM
14 Patrick Marleau 39 19 23 42 15
13 Daniel Sedin 42 19 23 42 1
22 Marian Hossa 39 18 20 38
3 Brian Rafalski 39 5 26 31 12

# Goalie GPI Min GAA W L OT SO SA GA Sv%
34 Miikka Kiprusoff 38 2227 2.86 24 11 3 3 1075 106 .901
20 Evgeni Nabokov 29 1721 2.55 21 4 4 2 777 73 .906

Now the west is not nearly as bad as the east but still... fan voting has got to go, players get voted in who don't deserve it take away from other players who have proved they are among the NHL's best.

This is not an attack on anyone's fans theirs nothing wrong with wanting to see your entire team in the all star game its simply an attack on the system because fans should not vote, there is simply too much bias. If you want to keep fan voting then select the teams before hand and then let the fans chose the starters, at least that way everyone who gets voted for deserves to be there.

I agree with most of what you have to say but you are taking out 2 defenseman and trying to replace them with forwards.
January 8, 2009 2:42 PM ET | Delete
just using an example of people who should have been in but left out.

You missed Elias of the Devils-5th in scoring. He and Mike Green are probably the two most deserving guys, outside of maybe Richards, not named to the team. However, I look at it another way-the ASG is a circle jerk and waste of time. So, who cares"?

Holy crap I had a brain fart and forgot about Green. Yea im sure everyone who didnt get in is happy they get a few days off

Yes you did, Brashear and Gabby will haunt your dreams till they get their vengeance.

What is this all about? Is there an extra game coming up soon? I bet a Hab will be the MVP too of this circle jerk (JSaq term).

The NHL gave full approval to the Montreal fans who used bots to vote for their players. What's interesting is that an article in Anaheim said that several votes for Ducks players were thrown out when it was determined that the voting had been done with a mass voting device. Ever hear of anything like that happening to Montreal? Didn't think so.
January 8, 2009 5:04 PM ET | Delete
The NHL did not approve of the bots, which is why after awhile they added one of those text boxes where you have to enter in the phrase listed.A possible answer could be you only get one vote per e-mail address, which would limit votes to one or two votes for person unless people really want to take the time to make multiple new e-mail addresses just for the purpose of an all-star game. I guess another problem with the all star voting system is that really good players in smaller markets where there are less fans might not get a chance to get voted in, but then again as flyers4487 points out they get to rest so its not really a bad situation.

anyone who voted for ALEXEI KOVALEV over Mike richards is beyond retarted
January 8, 2009 5:47 PM ET | Delete
anyone for voted for kovalev anyway is retarded. why the hell would anyone want to see him in the game and second of all why the hell was he on the ballot?
January 9, 2009 10:05 AM ET | Delete
Its stupid because they create the ballot based on last years performance. That is a flaw in and of itself.

I think you're right... The only Habs player who should be starter is Markov.Ovechkin should be starter instead of Kovalev(I say this even if Kovy is my favorite Habs player). It's weird to see Komisarek, but not bad as he led the league in blocked shot and hits for the past 2 years. Those type of D are easily forgettable in the NHL.As for Price, he deserve to be in the game, but not Starter. Thomas should be the starter. If Brodeur was not injured, the 3 goalkeeper should have been Thomas, Brodeur and Lunqvist.
January 9, 2009 11:31 AM ET | Delete
oh, by the way, please be more respectfull... Saying people who voted for Kovy are retarded is not very nice... You can say that People who vote for Kovalev are too much Habs-addicted is a better term
January 9, 2009 11:31 AM ET | Delete
Where's the cheese? The All star game means nothing, the league doesn't care about it, the players don't care about, why are you guys whining so much? Does Kovalev getting voted in mean he is better or more deserving then Richards or anyone else who didn't get in? No, Does it make Richards less of a great player? No. The status of being an All-star has long since meant anything. There are also alot more things wrong with the way players get voted in or even the players picked by the NHL. And has been for along time. This is not a new thing. The fans weren't voting in the best players they were voting in the players they either A) Reconize and being in Montreal alot more casual fans voted, B) or just wanted to seeIf you don't like it, I guess you should of voted More, Pittsburg did.

I don't understand why the NHL allows people to vote for the starting lineup, they obivously have no idea what they are talking about. komisarek and Kovalev are you kidding me???!!!! They shouldnt even be in this game. And I dont agree with Luongo being there. He's been hurt most of the year and there is some 20 win goalies not going, kipper and nabakov come to mind. This all-star game will be a joke!!! And arfangel if you think komarsek should be in the game cause of his shot blocking ability then I'd like to see him try and block souray's shot in the hardest shot competition then he might get my vote for the all-star game!!
January 9, 2009 4:25 PM ET | Delete
slim: i'd like to see anyone try to block Sheldon's shot...you just don't understand don't you... Komisarek is the opposite of souray.Sheldon is a Canon, he's a good point man but he's struggling on defense.Komisarek is a Bull, he is great in defense but he won't be the one to cumulate points...
January 9, 2009 5:32 PM ET | Delete
komaisarek is a great defenseman but we have a defenseman who is just as good here in nashville but he didnt make it in his name is greg zannon check his stats out and you decide
January 10, 2009 10:36 AM ET | Delete
All this just shows that the fans who are voting players into the ASG are voting just to see their favorite players play and are not voting players in based on skill. If it were up to me, every team should send at least one player in, and the top ten leaders in points from each conference should play as well. Any spares should either be voted in, or chosen by the coaches or players.Does anyone know who is coaching the teams?
January 14, 2009 10:14 AM ET | Delete
you're right amerk626,on tv I heard someone suggest that fan's vote should only count for 25%another 25% should be the coachs choicethen, the General managers and the players get the two finals 25%Like I said I agree that there's too many habs... I think this is just a message to the NHL to review their voting system
