After reading all of the Negative Blogs on the Sabres and All of the Press of the Former Captains Whom Will Remain Nameless. I figured I would write about something that could get the fans Smiling again. See We have a Terrific Team, Two players dont make a team and as far as Im concerned this team is headed in the right direction THE FUTURE.

So thinking in the future. Lets Put a Vote to the NEXT Sabre Captain. I think this time around management needs to come up with one man and one man alone to captain our team.

My Vote after many different Directions Will Be Tim Connolly. The home town boy is Finally gonna be healthy Knock on wood and Ready to be a leader both on the Ice and off. With that said I think their is plenty of good leaders on this team. EG. Teppo nummienen, Adam Mair, Jochen Hecht, Brian Campbell. Plus some of the Young guns Like Thomas Vanek(My Second Choice) or Drew Stafford(dont say hes too Young IE Sid the kid), Plus there are Rumblings that its time for a Goalie to assume the C which hasnt happened in Many Years so maybe Its miller time in your book.......

Lets just make this a fun Blog so the Buffalo Managment can look and See What the FANS Want..... PLACE YOUR VOTE

I am going with a different captain than most and believe D.Roy should get the c. My reasoning is because he has been here for awhile and is a young player that plays in all aspects of the game, whenever it be 5 on 5, PK, or PP. I know he has a reputation for diving but he is improving with that and he plays with heart which is something that can not be said for everyone on the roster. Tough kid who showed me a lot this post season. I love Hecht and Numminem but I just dont think they are captain material. Mair simply isnt on the ice enough, Tallinder is too soft spoken, Connolly is a close 2nd choice but there is always his health risk. I want him to worry about his health first and then we can discuss captaincy later. Vanek is a great player and now the face of the franchise but his job is to score goals but I dont see him leading as well as Roy can.

Not to be to critical Tim Connolly is from Syracuse. But i like the points you make. Adam Mair would be a logical choice for a few reasons. First off he has the respect of the guys around him, secondly he has the expirence to handle the job. And finally he will be here while the next Captain is being groomed. Maybe Paille or Cambell. Vanek will eventually get an A but it will be a while before he gets a C he has alot of work to do. Miller would be an amazing choice. But that just doesn't happen in the NHL. If that was the case Brodeur would be the guy who gets it. He is what the Devils are all about.

Gotta be Teppo -- he's the only one with any experience in the room, and he wore the 'A' last year. No brainer. However, if it becomes a brainer, then I'd have to go with Campbell -- not only does he play huge minutes, he's worn the 'A'.

no captain, let them earn it.

Jay McKee, oh wait, they let him go too. The Sabres have let a lot of their leadership slip away, so I don't think there really can be a favorite right now. Starting the season without a C may be a good plan. See who steps up. But I would have to think that right now Numminen would be the most logical choice. He wore the C in Phoenix and has the experience.

It may sound absolutely crazy, but I vote for Vanek. We'll have him for the next seven years, and we should make him the "face of the Sabres", now rather than later. The added responsibility should keep him motivated now that he has that big contract.

I'm a sens fan but I'd say Hecht with Goose and Teppo getting the A's.

Miller would be an intriguing choice, but unfortunately it's impossible. Goalies cannot be captains in the NHL, it's against the rules.

vanek is the future of the team give him the c . make teppo, connly and roy assitants ang go from there

Am I really hearing Connolly's name? He's played less than 70 games in the last 3 seasons in Buffalo (not counting the lockout). Not to be a jerk, but there's got to be someone more deserving...

My vote would be to not have a Captain this year. Give out 3 "A". No one on that team has been there long enough, has had enough experience to earn a "C".
July 15, 2007 4:36 PM ET | Delete
i read somewhere that adam mair's getting the "C" this season.....
July 15, 2007 4:52 PM ET | Delete
Brian Campbell or The Goose. Roy is still immature and has to work on growing up a little bit more before he gets to wear a C.

Brian Campbell, assistants Mair and Vanek.
