What to do With Pick No. 2

Let us all concede that the NY Islanders will get the first overall selection in the 2009 Entry draft. Now that Milbury is not in charge they will probably make the correct choice and go with John Tavares over Victor Hedman. So what do the Leafs do with that second overall pick? Keep it and take Hedman? Keep it and take some one out of place? Or do we trade it?
I say we trade it. Now before I get bombarded with people calling for my head let us take a look.
We want to stay top7 so here is how it could go down.
Trade No 2 pick to...
Ottawa for Foligno, 5th overall pick (Take Kane) and 09 Second, 09 3rd
Atlanta for Esposito, 4th overall pick (take Cowan) and 09 Second
TB for Ty Wishart, 3rd overall pick (take MSP), 09 second
Nashville for Colin Wilson and 7th overall pick (take Schenn) and 09 3rd
The choice of trading the right to draft Hedman could really speed up the rebuilding process. If we wanted to get a solid D-man in the draft it would be possible with the Likes of Cowan, Despres, Ellis, Kulikov, Moore, 4 of which you could get outside of the top ten. Burke will be able to secure at least 1 more first round pick in the mid range.
This is what I would do if I was GM...
Trade 2nd Pick to Tampa for Wishart, 3rd pick and 09 Second.
Trade 3rd Pick to Ottawa for 5th pick, 09 second, 09 4th
take Kane with the 5th pick.
We now have 3 more picks which could allow us to trade............
To Nashville 16th Overall pick (Acquired at Trade deadline), Jiri Tlusty , 09 4th (from Ottawa) for Pick no. 7 (take Schenn)
Our core would be in place, and even more so if Burke can work his magic to sign Gilroy. Our core would look great...
L. Schenn, Wishart, Gilroy, Stralman on the back end
B. Schenn, Kane, Kulimen, Grabovski up front
That is not including and prospect acquired at TDL day or second/third round picks.
Of course it all means nothing if NYI screws up and takes Hedman first over all. I could live with J.T in Blue and White could you?

you guys will not get the 2nd pick unless you get lucky in the lottery
i agree completely and totally with you I'm not as big of fan of hedman as everyone else seems to be so i think we should def trade if we get the 2nd
I don't think you will be able to trade down twice but trading down once is not out of the question. You just gotta make sure that someone isn't gonna pick the player your trading down to get.
