I jinxed the Wild

Posted Thursday | Comments 2
I predicted that the Wild will win their series with the Ducks. What do the Wild do? They went out and lost. Yikes talk about bad karma. I still think the Wild will win the series. What's up with FSN out of MPLS, they play the Twins game instead of the Wild game. What the hell is that. There are like 155 games left, the Wild need to be on.

When is a Loss not a Loss?

Posted Thursday | Comments 0
As a current television game show suggests, fifth graders can be as smart as adults. Yet, there are some things that fifth graders do not understand. That’s because we as adults have the remarkable, and fruitless, ability to twist simple things into complicated ones that defy logic and explanation. Such is the case for the NHL standings. In simpler times, the NHL...

A Christmas Blog

Posted Tuesday | Comments 1
Hey Everyone, This is just going to be a quick Christmas blog. I just wanted to take a second to wish all of my Hockeybuzz friends a healthy and happy Christmas. I hope you all get a chance to spend the day with your families and really enjoy the day and remember what it's all about. Take a moment to think about how lucky you are to have all of the gifts in your life th...
Last night, Henrik Lundqvist achieved something spectacular. He earned his 30th win of the season, for the third straight year. What this means is the following: In each of Henrik Lundqvist's first three NHL seasons, he has at least 30 wins. This has not been done since Garden favorite Ron Hextall (37 wins in 86/87, 30 wins in 87/88, and 30 wins in 88/89). To Hext...

This will be the future headline in all the newspapers, tv stations and the internet once the free agent period begins on July 1, 2009. Brian Burke looks to place his own big stamp on the Toronto Maple Leafs this summer and rebuild this team back into a playoff contender this off season when the UFA period begins. The questions many Maple Leaf fans have, myself included is...
I was fairly close to the output I expected from a few players last year, also with a couple that I was somewhat distant on so I'm looking to improve this time around. First I'll start with the lineup as it stands today that could conceivably represent Toronto on opening night, then I'll briefly discuss how wide-open the North East is and then move on to individual Mapl...
Who would have thought, just 12 days after starting the season with a pedestrian 3-3-3 record, the New York Rangers would transform their play from lukewarm to red hot. Indeed, the club holds the longest active win streak in the NHL, and the best "last 10" record in the East with a 7-2-1 mark. The goaltending continues to be solid, but now the forwards are scoring and ...
The Rangers were challenged to beat two of the most talented clubs in the Eastern Conference. To do so, they needed to overcome a two game slump, amid claims that their prior seven game winning streak was more a result of weak opponents than good play. They rose to the occasion, outscoring Washington and Philadelphia by a total of 8-3, while recording 30+ shots in back to ...
The Detroit Red Wings will head into this weekend with the home win streak of 18 games and the NHL home win record of 20 consecutive games on the line. The current record of 20 consecutive home wins is held by the 1929-30 Boson Bruins and the 1976 Philadelphia Flyers. The record would be a wonderful thing but the Wings may have bigger fish to fry. By bigger fish, I mean...

Red Wings are #1

Posted Monday | Comments 2
[img:right]http://media.mlive.com/redwings_impact/photo/10581756-large.jpg[/img] Detroit, who has been unbeatable at home since December took the reigns to the top spot in this week's NHL Power Rankings. They dethroned the New York Rangers who continue to win but aren't dominating like that team from Hockeytown. The Red Wings broke the NHL single season record of most c...
This is Part 2 of my fantasy outlook blog, for those of you who missed Part 1 on players, please check it out here: http://my.hockeybuzz.com/blog.php?user_id=96143&post_id=13915 Wonderful. So, just as a refresher, the basis of this blog is to assess those fantasy assets who I see taking a step up in the 2012/2013 season. Although that doesn'...

All About Carey

Posted Friday | Comments 0
One has to believe watching Carey play that the Stanley Cup is not too far off. It is a perfect script. He has done it all and then some. He now stands alone atop the Montreal Canadian goaltenders for total wins in a single season with 43 to date surpassing the likes of Plante and Dryden. What a remarkable achievement! Since being drafted he has won a Calder Trophy, a g...

New proposed point system

Posted Monday | Comments 0
So Boston, a team with 42 wins, doesn't make the playoffs while other teams with 41 wins do because they've made the most of the consolation point. Especially disgusting among those three teams is Minnesota, with a meager 38 wins on the season. Let's just change the point system... no 3 -2 -1, no 2 - 1. Wins are worth 1 point. Shootout losses and OT losses = 0 poin...
